Are Quran and Geeta More Important Than A Human Life?

A Quran gets accidently burned in Afghanistan. Obama apologizes. It was a mistake. Karzai is offended but he accepts the explanation and the apology. But what about the aam aadmi in Afghanistan? What they should have done was gather around the US embassy with placards and shouted slogans. Maybe even burn Obama in the effigy. After that they should have gone home. After all, accidental (or even deliberate) burning of Quran will not shake the foundations of Islam. But what really happened? Taliban from Pakistan entered the picture, the protests became violent and dozens of poor Afghanis died. The topic to ponder is – Is the sanctity of a religious book more important than a human life?

Hindus have gone through centuries of abuse. Muslim marauders destroyed everything we held scared. Our temples were burnt and converted into Mosques. Who knows how many of our holy books were destroyed. Then came the British with their subtle ways of destroying us. They raped us for couple of centuries. They inflicted their culture and ways on us. But, did it destroy Hinduism? No.

Look at the Jews. Their numbers were far less than us. They went through a holocaust. I am sure that the Nazis did not treat their temples and the Tora with any kind of respect. Did that destroy Judaism? No.

The point is that all religions have strong foundations and will be there well after the followers are gone. It is the faith and the belief that makes the religion strong. The religious books, which carry the message, are just that. Books. There destruction will not harm the religion. What destroys a religion is lack of faith not destruction of books.

What about the emotions and sentiments of the followers? When someone puts a picture of Ganpati on a toilet seat, it is hurtful and we should protest. But there are ways to protest. If a book gets burned, then it can be printed again but a human life is gone forever. With that in mind, our protests in matters of this kind or for that matter all the kind should be one which shows our resolve, faith, strength of character and civility not our inner beast. I wrote the following on our blog in regards to MF Hussain and his depiction of Ma Saraswati.

Even as a Hindu, when I saw the picture of a so called art piece where Jesus Christ was shown immersed in urine, I was offended. The guy who made that had only one thing in mind and that was offending all the religious conservatives in the US. Despite of that grossly offensive piece of puerility, the artist was not harmed in the US. He was just ignored. That is what we should have done to M F Hussain. He should have died an ignominious death in complete anonymity instead of getting feted by the entire left wing of India (of course that speaks volumes of them).

Islam and to some extent Christianity have always been the aggressors. These religions in attempts to expand have inflicted unspeakable cruelty on the non-believers. Christians now have mended their ways and resort to other tactics to meet their ends. They have come to believe that the foundations of the religion are strong enough to withstand onslaughts by liberal perverts. However, Muslims are still very insecure about their religion. Even the slightest provocation brings out the most worst in them. It is upto their religious leaders to correct this. Instead of provoking the Muslim aam aadmi to meet some political end, they should actually respect the lives of their followers and refrain from provocations, which result in deaths. Until that happens, we will continue to see what we are now seeing in Afghanistan.

I would like to remind the Muslims a powerful line in a poem by a Muslim Sufi poet.

Kis-waleya ka Majnu-nu, O teri Laila disdi kaali we!
Majnu ne jawab ditta, O teri ankh wekhan-waali we!
Je tu dekhe meri ankh naal, Teri surat na jaaye samhaali we!
Ved bhi chitta ter Quran bhi chitti, Vich shyahi rakh ditti kaali we!
Ghulam Farid jitthe ankhiyaan lagiyaan, Utthe kya gori, kya kaali we!

The highlighted line means that both Ved and Quran are blank pages until we put black ink in them. Of course the poet is using that line to prove that beauty is in the yes of the beholder but we could take home a different message from it.

Bollywood and Indian Culture

Is there anyone out there who believes that Bollywood is a true ambassador of Indian culture? I have never believed it to be the case. Bollywood has not done anything of late to prove me wrong. I will try to make a case here that not only do they not represent our culture but also their desire to peddle to the lowest common denominator of the society to make easy money makes them peddle stuff, which is out to destroy our culture.

Movies made by Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Adoor Gopalakrishnan and their contemporaries in Bollywood made movies that represented India well. Even the Bollywood potboilers prior to the 1990s with its melodrama, seemed innocuous and in tune with sensibilities of a typical house hold. Something happened to Bollywood on it’s way to today. Let us examine.

Movies of today make you uncomfortable if you are with your parents or children. Sleazy dances with white women (what is with the Bollywood obsession with white women? Is it our slave mentality at work here?) are all over the place. The lifestyle depicted in these movies is often that of unbridled promiscuity. If a non-Indian watched these movies, they would think that pre and extra marital sex in India is as common as smell of garam masala. The promiscuous behavior is rampant in our urban areas. The young Indians seem oblivious to the emotional and health cost associated with this kind of behavior. We are already seeing a dramatic increase in divorces. AIDS is already an epidemic with Hepatitis C ready to claim the throne of the biggest killer. Cervical cancer is also associated with unprotected sex. Can I really claim that Bollywood is causing our young to divorce and have promiscuous sex? NO! However they are not helping the matter by repeated portrayal of this kind of behavior as the norm.

Idol worshipping goes hand in hand with movies. In Amitabh Bachchan’s heydays, you could see youngsters copying his hairstyle all over the place. Emulating his clothes and mannerisms were part of one’s growing up. However his movies were still tame compared to the smut being peddled today. It is one thing to copy the hairstyle and entirely different to copy the lifestyle of the stars. Idol worshippers try to copy the easy and not the hard stuff. No one got inspired to take on twenty men because he did so in Deewar. However, one cannot claim the same about the unbridled sex shown in today’s movies.

Stars of yesteryear were not exactly paragons of virtue. Maybe it was because of lack of media coverage that Indians were protected from their bad behavior. Today’s stars like Salman Khan are nothing short of criminals. In any other country, the man would have served significant amount of time in jail for vehicular manslaughter or domestic violence but not in India. He has gone from strength to strength thanks to our ever-forgiving audience including the Hindu middle class. We are bearing witness to Saif Ali Khan’s violent behavior (what else do we expect from a man whose name means sword of Ali). He seems to be an unstable person with a violent temper. However he has the money and star power, not to mention a mother with ties to the pseudo secular politicians. I can bet that the Indian establishment is going to ensure an honorable exoneration from his latest violent escapade and audience are going to forgive him and make his forthcoming movie a success. Bravo India!!

Then we have the reality shows, which seems to have lowered the level of sleaze if that were possible. Now we have porn stars becoming mainstream celebrities thanks to shows like Bigg Boss. Sonny Leone has now been hired to act in a mainstream movie by Mahesh Bhatt who never ever misses an opportunity to spew venom against the Hindu aspect of our culture. This sleazy bastard made one good movie and since has done nothing but soft-core porn. Of course if he is still in business then we only have the audience to blame.

We have always had Muslims dominating Bollywood. However in days past, they kept their fanaticism under wraps. They looked and talked like everyday Indians. But in today’s India, they seem to be emboldened by the power if pseudo-secular establishment. Shah Rukh Khan seems to be dropping his Insha-Allahs all over the place. In the latest Filmfare awards (what a crock of shit that was), he greeted AR Rehman with Asalaam Aleikum and was greeted back the same way. Rehman went on to say Alhamdulillah on the stage, which is essentially the same vein as Allah Ho Akbar. I wonder what would the reaction if someone went Bajrang Bali Ki Jai ho on such a stage? If anyone has seen Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday to the end, you know what the reaction would have been. A true blue leftist liberal, Kashyap depicted the Kar Sevaks around Babri Masjid as caricatures of Hanumanji. Essentially Monkeys. Of course he showed the bombers of Mumbai as men who were normally reacting to the goings on in Ayodhya.

Therefore in my opinion, majority of crap coming out of Bollywood is not representative of Indian culture at all. If anything, they are either actively destroying it (like Kashyap and Nandita Das) with their unfair and biased portrayal or indirectly like today’s mainstream moviemakers who are peddling smut.

Of course the ultimate responsibility of this perversion lies with the aam aadmi. If no one watches these movies then the moviemakers will be forced to respond. If we boycott the movies of criminal stars then the producers will get the message. If we do not fulfill our responsibility and succumb to Salman Khan’s antics then we have no right to be outraged by his bad behavior. After all, we enable him.

Should India Help Baluchistan?

It is clear to all but the liberals and the jhola brigade that all our security problems are due to Pakistan. They are behind every hot spot either directly or indirectly. They helped misguided Sikhs in the 1980’s to their nefarious ends. Now they are using the Maoists, which was confirmed by Assam CM who is a Congressman. It is also clear to all but the ideologically blind that our government has no clue of how to deal with. Vacillating between hollow threats and repeated and unrequited peace overtures, they are confused.

Instead of threatening a crazy nuclear armed country with no political will to back it, we should strengthen RAW and their dirty tricks department. We used to have an extremely effective RAW but that pakiphile IK Gujral dismantled it. What a mistake that was. It takes years to develop human intelligence capabilities and misguided liberals undid it. A department like that can raise the cost of doing terror for the Pakistanis. It is the old “you send one of mine to the hospital, I will send one of yours to the morgue” adage. A country like Pakistan is rife with fault lines waiting to be exploited. We have written on that topic on this blog. I proposed a division of Pakistan into five parts (of course in discussion with my friends) long time ago. Later on, security experts and journalists after 9/11 expressed the same sentiments. After getting railroaded by the Pakistanis, US lawmakers are now proposing that Baluchistan is a candidate for freedom. That state has been abused and destroyed by the Panjabi dominated Pakistani establishment and military. They have used heavy weaponry against Baluchi insurgents. They have been doing this since the formation of the country. Except for India, the world stood by and did nothing. Eventually we also abandoned them.

The Americans have turned a blind eye to every one of Pakistan’s crimes. Now that they are feeling the effects of it, they are proposing an alternative approach. Dana Rohrabacher, who used to be extremely pro-Pakistani, said the following:

"Baluchistan deserves our attention because it is a turbulent land marked by human rights violations committed by regimes that are hostile to America's interests and values," Congressman Dana Rohrabacher said at a Congressional hearing.

Stating that Islamabad has refused to concede any legitimacy to Baluch nationalism or to engage the Baluch leadership in serious negotiations, Rohrabacher said:"Its response has been based on brute force, including extra-judicial killings." Congressman Ted Poe from Texas said that the current situation in Baluchistan fits into the category of self-determination.

It could be that the Americans are trying to threaten the Pakistanis with the second division of the country hoping to force them into compliance. It also could be that if Baluchistan becomes a free country then that would open another route to Afghanistan, which will bypass the Pakistanis. Of course the Americans are doing it for their self-interest. Now the bigger question is, should we also do the same i.e. do something for our self-interest?

Yes we should. Baluchis (and to some extent the Sindhis) have always been friendlier with us than the Punjabis. There are still functional Hindu temples in Baluchistan but none in other parts of Pakistan. If Baluchis form their own country, Pakistan’s coastline becomes a lot smaller and thus makes them vulnerable to a superior naval force such as ours. Pakistan will lose a lot of their natural resources and thus will become more amenable to trade.

Even bigger question is- what can we do to help the Baluchis? All we need to do is to look at old reports of the RAW. Moreover, if the US does the heavy lifting then we should be there to help them out especially if we can do it with enough deniability. Continued diplomacy with the US, Iran and Afghanistan will also be beneficial. Other than that, I am sure that the IFS guys, who are much smarter than I, can come up with other ways. It is important for our Baluchi friends. It is important for India.

The Importance Of Muslim Votes In India

High growth rates and a tendency to congregate has given rise to areas with a high Muslim percentage. Add illegal migration from Bangladesh and you have a recipe for disaster. Border areas of West Bengal aka Poschim Bongo now have Muslim majority areas, which used to be Hindu majority. A report says:

In Malda, Muslims stood at about 50 percent of the total population in 2001, Hindus at 49. In North Dinajpur, Muslims constituted 47 percent and Hindus 52 percent. Murshidabad has Muslims at 64 percent far outnumbering Hindus at 36 percent . In the 1951 census they were 55 percent and Hindus 45 percent . In Malda, too, the share of Muslim population has risen over the years from 37 percent in 1951.For the state as a whole, the percentage of Muslim population grew from 20 to 25 percent between 1951 and 2001. That of Hindus dropped from 78 to 72 percent . Among the districts, Birbhum has 35 percent Muslim population and South 24 Parganas 33 percent , both higher than the state average.

We have similar population dynamics in Bihar and to a somewhat lesser extent in the entire country. There are reports that the Communists in Poschim Bongo encouraged illegal immigration because Muslim dominated areas were their votebanks. Needless to say that this makes the Muslim votes very crucial to win elections because a typical Muslim vote is not decided by the voter but by the demagogue leader he or she follows. We are seeing examples after examples of that in UP which is the most crucial election before the 2014 elections. As I have said on this blog that no trick is too cheap, no low is too low for politicians to win that votebank.

Salman Khurshid and his wife have single handedly violated any and every norm of fair elections by promising reservations for Muslims. They have to do it. They are realizing that if they do not form the government in UP, Rahul Gandhi’s chances of becoming the PM in 2014 become infinitesimally smaller. He has been a major disappointment to the average Congress worker. The very fact that Priyanka Gandhi is out there with her children asking for votes. A sleazy and a cheap trick indeed. Speaking of shamelessness, what about the pronouncement that Sonia Gandhi bitterly cried when she saw the pictures of Batala house encounters? That was done to appease the Eastern UP Muslims where they have enough votes to influence the outcome.

Besides reservation, the Congress refused a VISA and protection to Salman Rushdie with an eye on UP elections. They have unleashed yet another investigation on Bhai Narendra Modi. Another sleazy trick to win the Muslim votes. Mr. B Raman whose analyses are always apolitical says the following:

It is no longer a case of the law taking its own course, but one of malicious witch-hunt against a political leader by his political opponents and by sections of the media and lawyers and others who are not well disposed towards him. Even after having failed to prove the charges before the SIT, they are determined to keep their vicious campaign alive for political reasons and not for reasons of natural justice.
I have never been an uncritical admirer of Modi. Nor am I in the ranks of his perpetual demonisers. I have always sought to judge him as objectively as I can. It is my view that the demonization campaign against him must stop now.

I happen to be in Lucknow on the day (2009) when Samajwadi Party was holding a massive rally in protesting sanctions against Iran. Most SP voters and workers will have difficulty-finding Iran on the map and yet here they are protesting something they have no clue about. The reason – Muslim votes.

Why have we never ever caught an Indian sympathizer of Paki inflicted terror? Why do we keep on talking diplomacy with the Pakis while they keep us bleeding? Why did we not intervene in Maldives? The same reason! Now we are being told that the Home Ministry is treading delicately on the latest bombing of the Israeli interests and not blaming the Iranian involvement is because we are buying oil from them. Even if went in full support of Israelis we will still be able to buy Irani oil because they need the money and our support in matters of Afghanistan. You see, they do not want the return of the Sunni Taliban in their neighborhood and we are the only major country who would help them out in that matter. So why is Chidambaran shying away from naming the Iranis? Any guesses?

This is extraordinarily bad. It is one thing to have domestic agenda based upon Muslim votes. Now we have to forge our foreign policy because the pseudo-secular parties want the Muslim votes? This is a very slippery slope. At this rate we are going to have Sharia laws in another 50 years or so. The votebank politics will achieve what Pakistani terrorism could not do.

Are Religious Minorities Victims?

We have discussed Hindu-Muslim relations on this blog a number of times and have strongly believed that the Muslims are not the innocent victims as described in the media and our history books (thanks go to our Macaulayite education system). What we have never discussed are the Hindu-Christian relations because the Christians have kept a low profile and try to propagate their religion under the guise of charity and education (Convent Schools and colleges like ST. Stephen’s). Their agenda is no less insidious especially because they have the blessing of our UPA bigwigs and our middle class who are enamored by “Convent Educated Children” who can speak English fluently.

The empowerment of Christians began during the British days when they were targeting the dalits and the tribals for conversions. In Orissa, we have Kandha tribals who are and have been more prosperous and thus powerful than the Pana tribals. Of course the Baptist Christian missionaries converted the Pana tribals who saw their new found religion as a way to empowerment. Of course the whole thing dovetailed with the British “divide and rule” policy because the Kandhas and Panas are still fighting. A lot of the Christian tribals have become Maoists and are raising hell all over the place. Christians in the west think of their religion as a bulwark against Communism. I hope they find this ironic. The point to note is that Kandhas and Panas were fighting before the Panas became Christians. Yet their fights have been declared a war by the Hindus on helpless Christians. What else remains buried is that aside from help from men like the late Swami Lakshmanananda (who was assassinated by Christians) no one helps the Hindus. However, the Christians have the entire media, Congress machinery and western propaganda and money behind them. Of course the Hindu cause was not helped by the unforgivable and extreme brutality shown by Dara Singh towards the family of Graham Staines.

We keep reading these reports where as many as 1000 churches have been attacked in the BJP ruled Karnataka. In an interview with Vicky Nanjappa (I have become a reluctant fan of this guy), P N Benjamin, a minorities commission member and coordinator of the Bangalore Initiative for Religious Dialogue Says the following:

It is not correct (accusation of 1000 attacks). It is just an exaggeration. I feel there have been a handful of attacks, which were instigated by some fringe Christian groups.

He goes on to say that the bigger the exaggeration the more the money these groups get from American and other western religious groups. When asked about threats to the Christian communities from Hindus, he says:

The real source of danger to the Indian Christian community is not the handful of Hindu extremists but the self-styled saviours of Christianity who assert that they alone are the holders of valid visas to heaven and paradise.

This all sounds very familiar. You replace America and the western religious groups with Saudi Arabia, you replace Convent schools with madarsas, you replace the various dioceses with Dar Ul Uloom and you have the entire Muslim story repeated down to an identical political dynamic.
The biggest misconception that we have had so far did that despite all, the Christians are a peace loving community. But with examples of the Maoists and extremists in South India and Orissa (the ones who killed Swami Lakshmanananda that misconception must be laid to rest. With the help of top UPA leadership and the Communists in Kerala, the Christians are anything but helpless victims in India.
With what we know about Christians now and what we have known about Muslims, is there anyone out there who thinks that Religious minorities are victims of any kind. To those who disagree with me I would like to point out that if you really want to see religious minorities as victims then you should look at Buddhists in China or Hindus and Christians in Pakistan. Now those are really helpless victims.

What Is Wrong With IAS Officers?

The British did not do anything in India for Indians. Even educating us was done to sustain a bureaucracy designed to better rape India. So when the Indian Administrative Services were initiated, it was definitely not to serve the Indians. The IAS officers were brown clones of the Gora Sahibs with all the hangups. The British left but they left these Bhura sahibs to continue their traditions. Now the same IAS officers are being used by our corrupt politicians to systematically rob the nation. Of course these babus are willing partners in that robbery. Before we go any further, let us take a look at two key provisions in the sytem. As per Wikipedia:

1. The Constituent Assembly of India intended that the bureaucracy should be able to speak out freely, without fear of persecution or financial insecurity as an essential element in unifying the nation.

2. While the respective State Governments have control over them they can not censure or take disciplinary action against IAS and other All India Services officers without consulting the Union Government(Central) and the UPSC.

Our shameless and corrupt politicians have no respect for laws of the society or humanity let alone the constitution. A good officer is hounded and transferred around until he or she relents. Of course the other side of the coin is that a corrupt babu cannot be punished. Wow! What a system! Does this sound like a system, which would serve the aam aadmi in anyway at all?

Ideally the system should work and it does to a large extent. If it were not for the smart IAS officers, our ministries often ruled by abject morons will cease to function. That way a lot of governance is due to the IAS officers. However, they do not seem to be accountable to anyone and are often law unto themselves in their own realms. The IAS officers are setting records as far as stealing is concerned. There are officers with hundreds of crores of illegal wealth all over the country. They use the government machinery for personal use without any inhibition or fear. Their wives use official cars and “chapraasis” like their personal property. Recently, one of these heartless harpies slapped a policewoman when refused a pass to watch cricket.

Dan Rostenkowski was one of the most powerful Congressmen in the US who was sent to prison for scam worth $50,000 worth of stamps and misuse of official vehicles. Imagine. If we were to impose our laws with that degree of strictness, then almost all our class 1 officers would be behind bars.

The point to ponder is – how does a smart and idealistic (I am assuming that all young people have some degree of ideals) person degenerates into their current avatar? I guess it is the system, which takes them in and chews them into the corrupt crooks that we see now.

I have no suggestions, only concerns. The system, which was founded, to rule and rape India needs to be re-invented. Accountability needs to be imposed. The guilty must be fired and punished. Meritorious must be rewarded and promoted. Just like the rest of us. The IAS officers should not become demigods. They are public servants. They should never forget that.

Is Hindu Terror Real?

Vicky Nanjappa fancies himself as a crack reporter on terror and security matters. In his latest he tries to figure out why National Investigation Agency (NIA) remains clueless while probing “Hindu Terror” cases. This is what this man says in his article:

The National Investigation Agency has ascertained that the ammunition for the blasts in Nanded, Modasa, Samjautha Express, Ajmer, Malegaon and Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad were all procured from Mhow in Madhya Pradesh.

The NIA has many suspects in custody; but there are others who are absconding. It has been almost a year since the NIA was handed over the charge for the above mentioned cases, but there appears to be something wrong with the manner in which the probe is taking place as there is no concrete breakthrough yet.

The NIA probe into cases involving 'Hindu extremists' went wrong from day one. The Nanded blasts, which is considered to be the mother of these acts of terror, was badly investigated, making it tough for NIA sleuths to make a start.

Today the NIA faces the herculean task of cracking all these cases which are inter-linked. Sources in the agency told rediff.com that the foundation of the case itself is extremely weak, which is why they are finding it hard to give it closure

He considers the Nanded blast as the fount of these terror acts. Nanded is in Maharashtra which is ruled by Congress. No one can blame the BJP of impeding the investigations. In fact with UPA government at the center and secular P Chidambaran in charge of Home no one can blame lack of political will and support in all these cases. Is it incompetence? If one or two cases were bungled due to incompetence then PC would have stepped in and ensured better investigators. Then what is the reason? Nanjappa does a lot of hand waving and tries to show that somehow he has managed an answer but he has come up with a huge ZERO. I would like to remind Nanjappa of a saying by Arthur Conan Doyle who through is creation, Sherlock Holmes says the following: How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?

So what is the possibility that Nanjappa and others seem to be hell bent on ignoring? Maybe there is no case. Maybe Hindus did not commit any of these blasts and the UPA government to bolster their secular credentials, want to create this specter where it is possible that Hindus are as likely to indulge in terror as Muslims. When it comes to brutality and treason, Hindus have demonstrated a remarkable propensity. But terror? From the evidence or lack thereof, it seems improbable. On the other hand the evidence to the contrary does exist.

In the most celebrated of these cases, the one that the Pakistanis do not tire of quoting was the Samjhauta Express bombing, Swami Aseemanand was arrested. The UPA government tried their best to tie him to the RSS. They thought that they would get away with blaming some hapless Hindu for this dastardly act until an American investigation and report showed otherwise. In an eye-opening article, Mr. B Raman who has stayed politically neutral says:

Thus, according to American investigators the LET and Al Qaeda were responsible for the Samjauta Express blast and the HUJI for the Mecca Masjid blast. If the American investigators, who have better sources in Pakistan, are correct, how can our investigators claim that some arrested Hindus were responsible for these incidents? Justice and fairplay demand a thorough investigation into the two different versions that have emerged from Indian and American investigators. While the American investigators have blamed the LET, Al Qaeda and the HUJI, Indian investigators have blamed the Abhinav Bharat. Both cannot be correct.

There you have it. The real reason for lack of progress in the Hindu terror cases is that the concept of Hindu terror only exists in the diseased imagination of our pseudo secular politicians who in attempts to secure their votebank and divert the attention of Hindus in the matters of extreme corruption have victimized innocent Hindus. The Hindu voters need to stop being defensive for political correctness and lay the blame where it really belongs: On the UPA government.

A Strong Finish In UP Is A Must For BJP

Sahara India owner Subrata Roy is very very close to Samajwadi Party. He is a close friend of ex SP strongman and moneyman Amar Singh. This cabal systematically robbed UP. Roy’s welfare is directly proportional to that of SP. He would want SP to win in UP. So when his company’s poll (supposedly the most exhaustive poll in the history of elections in UP) projected the SP as the next winner, no one should be surprised. But what is surprising is the second place finisher. The poll claims that the BJP would increase their vote percentage from 17% to 24%. If true, that is really remarkable. With 17% the BJP won 50 seats. With 24% the number of seats should be a lot more especially because the Muslim votes is going to get divided badly this time. In a fractured mandate it is very possible that the BJP may even finish first.

For that to happen, a few things are important. The campaign has to be intensified. Entire force of the party should be behind the start campaigners. Local BJP leaders should be heard and helped. If they want Narendra Modi to campaign then by all means he should. If senior leaders are showing dissension because of selfish reasons, then the party seniors should shut them up. Key areas of strength should be indentified and clear and precise messages should be delivered. Performance should be highlighted. Local leaders should go door to door and ensure a high voter turnout, which may even increase the vote percentage beyond the projected 24%. A strong finish is needed. A victory in UP followed by a glimpse into what the BJP can do will ensure a good performance in 2014 .

Our responsibility should be to go out and cast our votes. Laziness or weather or any other excuse should be shunned. This is a chance to exercise our right and flex our muscles. If we do not do so now, we should not complain. EVER.

Real Encounter But Fake Case Against Narendra Modi

David Headley alias Daood Sayed Gilani told the visiting NIA sleuths that Ishrat Jahan was an a suicide bomber recruited by LeT operative Muzamil. We wrote about this on our blog long time ago. In case you have forgotten, Headley is an US born Muslim with Pakistani origins who was doing reconnaissance missions in India leading up to the 26/11 bombings in Mumbai. The question to ask is: Why would Headley lie about Ishrat Jahan? If anything, he would lie about the complicity of a fellow Muslim.

In what would come as a great relief for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Gujarat police, David Headly has said Ishrat Jahan, the Mumbai college girl who was gunned down last year was an fidayeen, or suicide bomber.

Jahan was killed along with Javed Sheikh alias Pranesh Pillai and two Pakistani nationals -- Amjad Ali and Jishan Johar Abdul Ghani -- on June 15, 2004. As per police records, they were intercepted on the outskirts of Ahmedabad, travelling in a car. When they were confronted, an encounter ensued in which all were shot dead.

The new revelation by Headley has come as a big contradiction to what a Ahmedabad court had ruled last year that the killing of Ishrat Jahan was a "fake encounter."
An embarrassing probe had revealed horrifying details of how Ishrat Jahan and three others, who were proclaimed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives on a fidayeen mission to kill Chief Minister Narendra Modi, were actually gunned down in cold blood a day before they were actually shown as killed in a police encounter.
A day after the report by Ahmedabad metropolitan magistrate S.P. Tamang, state government spokesperson and cabinet minister Jay Narayan Vyas had told reporters that the inquiry report was "bad in law and so the state government will challenge it".

The damning report had put pressure on Modi, which named 21 cops, including retired DGP Kaushik, as the people behind the gunning down of innocent persons by branding them terrorists.

All in all, it looks like yet another attempt at trying to bring down Modi. Gujarat still has a lot of staunch supporters on Congress in State machinery. They hate Modi enough to concoct all kinds of cases against him. One would have thought that after Headley’s revelation, the matter would end but thanks to pro Congress leftists and similar NGOs, the case has been brought back to life. Javed Akhtar (a man who fancies himself as an Urdu poet but cannot do more that rhyme), social activist Shabnam Hashmi (who seems to be the new avatar of that despicable and discredited liar Teesta Setalvad) and some journalist called BG Verghese have filed two writ petitions. Yes. Two Muslims and a Christians have taken it upon themselves to lie and cheat on the behalf of Congress to bring down one man who Congress has been desperately trying to ruin for a long time but have failed. I can see the journalist filing some thing like this because they may have dug up something (what can refute Headley’s revelation is still beyond me) but what can Akhtar and Hashmi know?

This is yet another ploy of Congress who often throws a lot of things at their enemies hoping that something would stick. This is a repeat of the attempts by the leftist cabal to associate Modi with the riots, which happened after the Godhra station massacre. I can almost predict that the next attempt will be some witness who will come out in favor of Congress but they retract as it happened with Setalvad who was bullying some poor Muslim into lying against Modi.

Congress is a failed and a frustrated party. It seems like they are going to place fourth in UP elections as well. If that happens then the Sonia’s dream of Rahul’s coronation would be shattered. This is a cheap ploy to besmirch the biggest leader in the BJP in hopes of winning state elections including the ones coming up in Gujarat. Hopefully the voters will see through these lies and reject Congress with extreme prejudice.

As far as worms like Akhtar and Hashmi are concerned, one can only wonder why do they not speak for fellow Muslims when they are killed in non-BJP run states. We all know that these so called communal riots happen a lot more in the non-BJP run states. Why have they not filed writ petitions asking for enquiries into the so-called Batla house encounters?

Justice Aftab Alam wants all the encounters in Gujarat between 2002 and 2006. What about encounters in the rest of the country, your honor? And here I believed that the Supreme Court of India was beyond any pressures.

This is shameless and hopefully, the Indian voters will reject the rancor in the media and resolve this issue by voting out the worst possible government our unfortunate country has had the misfortune of dealing with.

UP Elections: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly

The good:
1. Gadkari has been reined in. Modi has agreed to campaign in UP. That should boost the sagging spirits of the BJP grassroots workers in UP. As we have said on this blog, grassroots workers always respect people with achievements rather than recommendations in their bags.

2. Uma Bharati is definitely making a difference in Western UP. She is a very capable leader who works very well independently. She is an extremely valuable asset and should be handled properly by better leaders than Gadkari.

3. Akhilesh Yadav’s ascent should be a lesson to incapable senior leaders of all parties. This guy has brought SP back from the dead. He seems to be sincere and connects well with people. Hopefully he will be less corrupt than his father and really secular. This is what meritocracy is all about. A younger, more capable leader must be allowed to shine on his or her own.

4. Voter awareness seems to be on the rise. In an article, Seema Mustafa writes about this BJP leader from Badaun (of course she left his name out): In a significant development, not often heard in UP in the past, voters are quite happy to denounce or praise a candidate for the work he or she has done regardless of the party. In Badaun, for instance, the Muslim voters were full of praise for the local BJP candidate who was described as "good man" and as they put it, "a leader who will rush here on his cycle within minutes if he call him." Yet another example of a leader with great promise being held back in anonymity.

5. People are not falling for cheap tricks (4.5% reservation for Muslims or forgiving the farmer loans). Muslims have so far rejected any overtures from Congress. Rahul Gandhi is a complete non-factor. He has been ill treated in some constituencies. In fact things have become so bad that his sister has to come out to save him.

6. Mayawati is destined to lose her power (BSP will not win as many seats this time) but her dalit votebank seems to be holding fast for her. Hopefully the urban and semi rural middle class and others will go out in droves to vote against her.

7. We all hope that Team Anna and Baba Ramdev will also come out and raise their voices against the status quo. These people received a lot of support from UP. It is time to repay the favor.

The Bad:
The 1. As we have said on this blog many times that UP is such a big prize that these elections are bringing out the worst in all the parties. The BJP has shown that they are not averse to fielding criminal candidates if they can help them. Whatever happened to the “party with a difference” thing?

2. Mulayam’s promises (hopefully he will remain as far from the CM’s seat as he is today) will bankrupt the state. These people have not learned anything from the mistakes made by politicians in Andhra and Tamilnadu.

3. From the looks of it, no single party will enough seats to form a government on their own. This means a coalition government. Some leftist fan of BSP is predicting a BJP-BSP government. All that means is that UP will remain mired in the same shit as before. But the responsibility of that will be on the voters of UP. It took voters of Bihar about 25 years to break free from Lalloo Yadav’s talons. Let us see how long does it take the UP’ites to break free from BSP / SP combine.

The Ugly:

1. Congress is trying to win their Muslim votebank by offering them 4.5% reservation. This is going to really polarize UP. Of course the helpless residents of the state are going to pay the price not the Crown Prince.

2. BJP’s leadership issues are going to hurt the party badly. No sooner did the party start to look good than Kalraj Mishra started to make statements saying Uma Bharati cannot be the CM candidate because she is an outsider. Wow! As Akshay Kumar said in Hera Pheri (I am paraphrasing): the buffalo is grazing and this guy has already started to sell yogurt / curd. Then of course you have Rajnath Singh who is trying to impose his son on the State BJP, a move that has already caused problems. Both Singh and Mishra have been in charge of UP for the last fifteen years and have done NOTHING to improve the party’s stature in the state. What right do these two have to demand anything? My advice to them is to shut up and let those people take over who are decidedly more capable. On this blog we have repeatedly proposed the name of Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. I hope that strong leaders would prevail in UP and not let this “top job” issue derail the party.

3. In the same article, Seema Mustafa also says about the much loved BJP leader from Badaun:." Their (Muslim’s) dislike for the BJP will prevent them from voting for him directly, they say, but they will be quite happy if he wins on his own vote as he did last time. This is really pathetic. On this blog, we pride ourselves in being “India First” conservatives. If we think that a non-BJP / non-Hindu can make a difference then we have not shied from proposing their names. Readers of this blog know that we do not care about who brings about the positive change as long as it is positive. We have proposed names of religious minorities, Congressmen and other based totally on merit. We wish that these Muslims would get over their aversion and vote for the right person no matter the origin.

Salman Rushdie VS M F Hussain

One of the things I absolutely admire about the US is their passionate love and respect for freedom of speech. It is protected no matter who the speaker. When M F Hussain wanted to come back to India here is what I wrote on this blog:

Even as a Hindu, when I saw the picture of a so-called art piece where Jesus Christ was shown immersed in urine, I was offended. The guy who made that had only one thing in mind and that was offending all the religious conservatives in the US. Despite of that grossly offensive piece of puerility, the artist was not harmed in the US. He was just ignored. That is what we should have done to M F Hussain. He should have died an ignominious death in complete anonymity instead of getting feted by the entire left wing of India (of course that speaks volumes of them).

Having said all that, I would like to say that a puerile man with a diseased mind, M F Hussain should have been protected by strong Indian laws. He should have remained unthreatened. You see, Hinduism, which is the greatest religion in the world, can survive a worm like Hussain. He is gone and will get what he deserves in the afterlife but Hinduism will remain strong and the only guiding light to India. We should ignore annoyances like him and worry about what is truly important. India and what she stands for.

As a patriotic Indian, I respect the laws of the land and expect that all of us adhere to it like our lives depend on it. This is why; I may have sounded like someone who was taking sides with the liberals and the pseudo-seculars on this matter. Of course this is where the similarity between people like me and the liberals ends. I strongly believe that Salman Rushdie has every right to visit India and expect the Indian laws to protect him. On the other hand, the timid response of the liberals and pseudo-secular crowd is flabbergasting. The entire English language media has not made a peep against the Muslim clerics and other Muslim leaders on this matter. No sarcastic comments are coming from the leftist luminaries. You could not shut these people up when they were railing against the Hindus who were angry with M F Hussain.

Here is Digvijay Singh on the matter:

"Who has stopped him? He does not need a visa to come to India," he said, adding that "there is no law" to stop the author from visiting the country.

Wow, such innocence! Of course he dare not say the real reason with UP elections so close. This is nothing but blatant subversion of Indian laws and basic human rights in the name of minority appeasement and votes. But then accusing these people of hypocrisy will be very naïve on my part.

What Is A National Shame, Mr. PM?

Caste system is a national shame. Dowry is a national shame. Female feticide is a national shame. Child labor is a national shame. Regionalism is a national shame. It is a long list but the common element is that in all these is the society. We all share the blame for these ills. But when it comes to an issue like Hunger and malnutrition, the society is not to be blamed. It is the system ergo the government which is to be blamed. So when our esteemed PM goes on record dubbing malnutrition as a national shame (over 40% of our kids are malnourished) I shake my head in dismay. Does this man even know what he is talking about? Our farmers grow enough food to feed us all. If not then we can import food. We can do away with wastes like Commonwealth games and use that money to buy food. We can stop waste of food by building better storages (we have gone hoarse on this blog on these matters). We can step in and stop corrupt practices to ensure the implementation of programs in place. My question to Manmohan Singh is – What can the society do about this? Isn’t this the government’s fault?

Congress has ruled us for more than fifty years of our independent lives. They are always too quick to take the credits for successes. Every achievements gets the Gandhi family name associated with it. But when it comes to failures, the nation gets the blame. It is not national shame Mr. PM, it is your shame. It is your party’s shame. Be a man for once. Accept your missteps.

This government has no right to be in power. They lost any moral authority long time back with just the economic scams. In most countries that would have been enough. I just want to express my outrage at the ineptness of these politicians who are only interested in their Kursi and ensuring the continuation of the Gandhi family rule.

Another small example of such a shame has come to our notice. British tourists shot video footage of semi naked tribal women in exchange for food in Andaman. After this came out the government babus went into a damage control mode. This is what was said in a report:

The Sonia Gandhi-headed National Advisory Council had reported sexual exploitation of Jarawa women and recommended action six years before the current furore over a video of half-naked, dancing Jarawa girls. However, it took more than five years — and letters from Sonia to the home and tribal affairs ministries — for the Centre to consider some action in the shape of amendments to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (Protection of Aboriginal Tribes) Regulations, 1956.

So what this report wants you to believe is that Sonia Gandhi’s NAC sent a report to Central government a report six years ago and no action has been taken yet. The implication is that Sonia Gandhi is some helpless person with her heart in the right place trying her best to get this inept government to do something about this tragedy. WOW! Step back. Take a breath. Analyze this. IF there ever was a bigger pile of dung then I have not seen it. Everyone knows that the real power rests in the hand of Sonia Gandhi and her chamchas aka NAC. If they want a problem taken care of they can get it done. They mobilized our army to fix the broken bridge to ensure the success of Commonwealth games. If they had a report on the Jarawa tribal issues and no action was taken then it is because they did not give it any priority. Now this is their shame. All the spin to protect the Rajmata is a farce.

My appeal to this government is that please stop talking. If you are not going to do anything then don’t. But please do not speak with forked tongues and add insult to the aam aadmi’s injuries. That is cruel and unusual.

Communicable Diseases In India – Miles To Go.

National Center for disease control was established in 1909. A similar organization was established in the US in1942. Since then, the CDC has gone from strength to strength. I have heard that even a hint of an epidemic, mobilizes state and national level forces. That is how it should be. Of course in India, during a recent outbreak of encephalitis in eastern UP, it almost seemed that the victims were left to the inept machinations of Mayawati sarkar. Forces did get mobilized and problem was brought under control. But during all the confusion and total lack of focus, four hundred children died. NCDC need to realize that there is more to their jobs than providing statistics to Mantrijee. Bureaucratic red tape and interdepartmental turf war must be removed. All states should get equal attention from the central government. Every life must be treated with the same respect.

Of course, India has close to four times the US population and many fold fewer resources. But that should not stop us from striving for better focus and effort. It seems that our efforts towards getting rid of the polio menace is yielding great dividends. This is what was said in a news report:

India's thorough vaccination programme has helped it to stop new transmissions. India has been free of new cases of polio for a year, putting it on track to end its status as a country where the virus is endemic, officials say. In a few weeks, if pending samples test negative for the virus, India will be officially regarded as free from polio for the first time in its history. The World Health Organisation described this as a critical milestone.

I really tip my hat to the doctors and officials who must have worked hard to achieve this. I dare say that they did this despite of the political leadership. Health ministry is one of those departments, which need a leader like Congress’ Jairam Ramesh or BJP’s Maneka Gandhi. They both have demonstrated a messianic zeal in dealing with issues personal to their heart. I really like Jairam Ramesh’s efforts in dealing with an issue like the Environment, which is probably at the bottom of list of priorities (read our many posts on pollution of our rivers).

But polio is just one of the health problems. Some epidemics are lifestyle related and can be dealt with a judicious use of media to educate the aam aadmi. However the communicable diseases are the ones, which need a greater attention. Aids are one that is on everyone’s radar but it is TB, which is the latest big worry. A strain of TB, which totally resistant to antibiotics has been found in Mumbai. This what was said about this:

The state government has decided to shift patients with totally drug-resistant tuberculosis (TDR-TB) to a sanatorium in Jaysingpur near Maharashtra's Sangli. A central team of TB experts will assess the patients on Monday before they leave the city. The patients will be housed in 30-bed sanatorium at Jaysingpur, a picturesque, small town near Sangli that is relatively pollution-free. "Eleven of the 14 patients identified with TDR-TB so far in the city will be sent to isolation," said state TB control officer Dr P Gaikwad.

I am glad the officials are on the job and they should be supported and commended for their efforts. The GoI should open more branches of the NCDC and those should be funded well and organized in such a way that they can move with the speed of a stealth army unit.

On their part, the aam aadmi should help the efforts of the NCDC in every way they can. Awareness and cleanliness are two simple ways of dealing with such problems. If we see conditions like stagnant and dirty water or heaps of garbage, we need to lean on civic authorities to get is cleaned up. Of course the local authorities need to be receptive to such complaints. All of us working together can beat this problem.

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi: The M A N For UP

Finally, the BJP is making amends for Gadkari’s blunder of inducting Kushwaha into the party. An even bigger blunder by Congress (reservation for Muslims) has given them an opportunity. To assuage the fears of the Hindu OBCs they are now bringing their biggest gun, Bhai Narendra Modi who is a Hindu OBC himself. No better person to convince the Hindu OBCs of the difference between a well-wisher and a manipulator. The BJP are also bringing all their star campaigners. Yes. Finally they are according this election the importance it deserves.

I would urge them to go a step further. They need to project their candidate for the top job. I have proposed his name in one of my earlier blogs and I would reiterate it here – Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. He is lawyer from Allahabad University with excellent leadership credentials. He has held various positions in the BJP including a minister of state in the Vajpai government and All India Party VP. Among the others are

Member, Committee on Finance, Defence, External Affairs and Commerce, Member, Haj Committee, Chairman, Joint Committee on the Functioning of Wakf Boards, Member, Court of the Aligarh Muslim University, Member, Joint Parliamentary Committee on WakfAug.

Along with what is clearly a superior administrative resume, he also is young, a very good and articulate speaker, author and a well-travelled man. From all his statements, he strongly comes across as an “India First” nationalist. He joined the BJP before they were a national force, which tells me that he is not like the opportunistic Aaya Rams –Gayaa Rams who inundated the party after its first stint at the center. His is a Muslim in a Hindu nationalist party. He would not be there if he did not believe in the ideology. He has not shied away from taking strong positions on Hindu–Muslim issues which may not have resonated well with the extreme right wing of the BJP. It clear to all but a few that India can progress with EVERYONE in it or not at all. Naqvi has spoken against the Muslim demagogues on many occasions. He is a proud Muslim who understands and appreciates the Hindu ethos of the nation and denounces the victimhood that other parties seem to force on the Muslim community. Who better to lead a state like UP than the star of the BJP from the UP heartland – Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi?

A small point to be mentioned here is that of all the parties who claim to be champions of the Muslim cause, none has ever put a Muslim in the CM’s seat. Congress, SP and BSP can scream and shout all they want but all they really want is for the Muslims to be mired in the same problems as they always have been. Naqvi as a BJP candidate will not only be the most capable person to lead UP but will also cause the pseudo-seculars to choke on the irony.

Read the following statements by him and read the articles posted and then you will realize why I want this man to lead UP.

On Muslim demands:

"we want Muslims to look at our socio-economic policies. We want to focus on their education and employment ... Other political parties harp on narrow and sentimental non-issues like personal law, Kashmir and Urdu, and they exploit Muslims by whipping up their passions."

On reservation for Muslims (which reflects his sentiments on reservation itself – signs of a fair man):

"Speaking to reporters, Naqvi said that during Congress, BSP and SP rule in the state, the socio-economic conditions of Muslims has turned from bad to worse. On Haj Subsidies:

As a first step, we stopped the `haj' subsidy for income-tax payees. One cannot stop this subsidy at one go. It is not only a question of India being a secular state, even in Islamic countries `haj' is not subsidised.

On peace with Pakistan:

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that no steps detrimental to national security should be taken in pursuit of peace with Pakistan and people will not accept it.

On the issue of Vande Mataram:

"Those who oppose our national song should better leave the country. Their opposition is a reflection of their separatist mindset," Naqvi had said, adding, "Every faith preaches patriotism. Those who are opposing singing of Vande Mataram in the name of Islam are going against the tenets of the faith.”

On Varun Gandhi’s anti Muslim speech:

The issue was raised by BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi who said while he believed in Hindutva, the Pilibhit "brand" of saffron had left him shaken. He said the real credit for Congress did not go to Rahul Gandhi but rather to the BJP's Pilibhit MP. He blamed the party for not unequivocally distancing itself from the hate speech.

There you have the views of the man. You may say that he is providing a lip service for the BJP speaking only on Muslim issues. But you have to look beyond that and see a proud Indian who rejects victimhood and wants ALL Indians to rise based on their abilities and hard work. Isn’t that what we all want?

He is the tallest leader in the BJP from UP. It is time to accept it and accord the man some recognition and respect. Project him as the next CM candidate of the BJP.

Gadkari's Mess In UP - The Reason And How To Clean It.

Nitin Gadkari is uninspiring, elitist (what kind of an Indian faints in sun?), loudmouth and the second worst BJP president (the worst is Rajnath Singh) but he is not inept. He did the right things with the Bihar elections, which the BJP won handily. So why did he do what he did in UP? Why would anyone bring in a crook like Kushwaha, a cast off of one of the most corrupt group of politicians i.e. the BSP? Why would someone prefer to have Kushwaha on his side rather than Narendra Modi? I have though about it hard and will try to come up with an explanation. Please read the following points.

The crucial Muslims votes in UP are going to be divided between various champions of secularism and new Muslim parties. Good news for the BJP but is it good enough to put the party over the top?

Opinion polls said that the BJP was going to finish fourth but those polls are often wrong. It is those internal party polls, which are closer to the truth. We do not know what the BJP party polls say but as per Congress’ polls, the BJP will be finishing a close second behind Congress. This brings the BJP close to a win but what about a clear win?

Mayawati, who is one of the most corrupt politicians in the nation, is trying to clean her administration in order to look clean to her upper caste and middle class voters. She knows that if she loses, she will spend the next five years trying to sty out of jail. She got rid of Kushwaha who is mired in a major scam, which may even involve murder. Kushwaha is an MBC (most backward class, that we have such a category is mind boggling) and a very powerful one at that. The CBI raided his holdings because SP and Congress do not want him joining the BJP as he can then help the BJP break the hereto-unbreakable hold of SP and BSP on the western UP votes.

Gadkari was aware of Kushwaha’s power. He also knew how close the BJP may be to winning in UP and he is desperate to prove his worth to his bosses (which include the RSS bigwigs). That is why he took a risk. He arm-twisted the UP BJP leaders and inducted Kushwaha and four other crooks. He risked the wrath of the real BJP members, the ones beholden to the Hindu Nationalist ideals and took this step out of desperation.

We all want the BJP to win in UP and then 2014 general elections. What we don’t want is the dilution of the ideology, which makes the BJP the party of difference. They did something like this in the past with DP Yadav and that move blew in their face. That did not teach them anything.

However, things need to be done to erase this ugliness. A straightforward mea culpa is extremely important. That does not look likely right now because Gadkari has invested everything in this move and is trying to justify this act by using all and every excuse in the book. Hopefully after the UP elections, someone from the party will have the moral fortitude to apologize to their supporters.

The second is the issue of leadership needs to be resolves once and forever. It has to be democratically resolved instead of being decided by the RSS leadership. The RSS elders need to adopt an advisory role and let the party members elect someone they respect and can rally behind.

I am an ex member of the RSS and come from a family of RSS members and officials. It is probably the most admirable organization of India. Its leaders are nationalist patriots but not politicians and thus not adept in political machinations. They should also allow alternate views and visions for the party and even the nation as long as the aam aadmi benefits and the spirit of the nation remains in line with Hindu ethos and accepting the demands of the modern times. This is very important because Bhai Narendra Modi is the tallest leader in the BJP but he has a different way of functioning than what is acceptable to the RSS elders (even though he served the organization for most of his life). Now he has been cast aside from any leadership considerations. On the other hand the RSS elders have made mistakes with ineffective leaders like Gadkari and Rajnath Singh. The UP BJP leaders wanted Modi to campaign in UP. Gadkari ignored that and then went ahead with his Kushwaha plan, which has now given the Congress something to hold over the BJP. This is all Gadkari’s fault and no amount of backtracking is going to remove that black spot. It was Advani and Pramod Mahajan who lost the 2004 elections with their ill-timed India Shining campaign. It was Advani and Sudheendra Kulkarni who lost the 2009 elections. Now it is Gadkari who will ruin BJP’s chances in 2014. Something needs to be done about this.

Clear And Present Danger To India

In non-democratic nations, governments in peril usually start something to divert the attention of the population. This enables them to validate their hold on power. The day Kim Jong Il died, North Koreans test fired a nuclear capable missile. This forced the South Koreans to go on defensive. That is one way.

We have two such countries in our neighborhood- China and Pakistan. Both of them are going through problems. Pakistan is dealing with their own security issues thanks to all the terrorist organizations they have spawned. Then there is the economy, which now has to deal with the possibility of the loss of multimillion-dollar “bheekh” from the US. There is the memogate, which has brought the fight between the civilian government and the army out in the open. Even PM Gilani who seemed to be an army lapdog is showing signs of dissention. Then there is that American problem where they are dealing with the drone attacks and the whole Afghanistan mess. It is becoming clear that the Paki army is not going to go gently into the night. They are going to flex muscles and establish their relevance to the Paki people. How can they do it without much effort? They can foment problems for India using the many terrorist organizations at their disposal. Even the prospect of a strong response from India would then send the pakis running to their saviors in the army.

As far as China is concerned, their problems larger because they are a larger country. Their economy which was bulldozing through seems to be slowing down because of a global economic slowdown.

For years analysts have warned of a looming real estate bubble in China, but the predicted downturn, the bursting of that bubble, never occurred -- that is, until now. In a telling scene two months ago, Shanghai property developers started slashing prices on their latest luxury condos by up to one-third. Crowds of owners who had recently bought apartments at full price converged on sales offices throughout the city, demanding refunds. Some angry investors went on a rampage, breaking windows and smashing showrooms.

The above is only one of the many examples of violent protest that the government has not been able to control. Another example is the farmer protest against real estate developers in Wukan. We are also witnessing a tectonic change in the security paradigms in the Pacific. The Chinese hubris is not going unnoticed anywhere and the world is preparing for the new bad guy. The PLA and the new Chinese leadership are itching to flex their muscles. That desire coupled with a strong need to divert the attention of the populace from domestic troubles could spell trouble for neighbors like India. I don’t think that the Chinese are actually going to march down into India but that does not mean they cannot ratchet up the tensions on some premise or the other (harassing our diplomats and traders could just be the start).

I hope against hope that the current GoI’s ineptitude does not extend into defending our borders. We already have surrendered to the Chinese in trade. Surrendering our safety would be an entirely different beast.

Searching For Narendra Modi Clones In UP

On this blog, we have been lamenting the projected fourth place finish for the BJP and the lackadaisical and confused approach of their leadership towards the most important election before the 2014 general elections.

Caste politics in UP is definitely as bad as anywhere else if not worse. Being a large state, there are pockets where different castes are prominent. In western UP, the Lodh community votes are so important that Uma Bharati was re-inducted into the party (she should never have been fired to begin with). Of course the step was a case of too little, too late. She does not seem to be making much of a difference. OBC’s, Muslims and dalits form the other major groups. Kalraj Mishra and Rajnath Singh have claimed to have control over Brahmin and Thakur votes respectively (although evidence of those claims have not been seen in the past decade). So already we have three leaders with their eyes on the CM’s seat. Of course the party is so desperate that they have started to recruit BSP discarded ministers with scams and criminal cases behind them. Is this the way they are going to project themselves as a party of difference? These criminal MLAs are supposed to help the BJP break into the BSP bastions. The UP elections are not a surprise to anyone. Why did the party not start to work at it before? Why not approach this thing from a grassroots level and work at it. This current approach is shameful and speaks volumes of the ineptitude of party leadership.

BJP has always sent mixed messages to their voters on UP leadership issues. They have alienated their voters in the urban areas in a big way. They are no longer the party of difference, discipline and integrity.

What should have been done is to cultivate local leaders because all politics is local. Instead of bringing organizers from outside of state, they should go after local leaders who know the state well. One such leader is Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi. He is younger than most of the CM wannabes. He is educated (Law from Allahabad University) and well spoken. He is currently a high ranking member of the party. He has been a member of the Waqf board and on AMU administrative body. All this speaks well of his administrative qualities. He is a Muslim in a Hindu Nationalist party which speaks of his commitment to the ideology and his strength of character. All these are the kind of characteristics which one often sees in great leaders like Bhai Narendra Modi. Why is Naqvi not at the forefront of UP elections is beyond me?

It may be too late for the UP state elections but the BJP can still make inroads into the UP voters by doing the right things which includes a grass roots level movement against bad governance and corruption and projecting good leaders who are committed to the cause rather than “gaddi / kursi” as a sign of stability. That may go a long way towards winning in 2014.

Food Security In India: Sonia VS Modi

To Sonia Gandhi and her NAC (read “Chamchas”), the food security bill is not about hungry Indians. It is about those hungry Indians thinking that the government is doing something and then they will be hoodwinked into voting for her son as the next PM. She is the de facto PM and is thus running the most corrupt government in our history. In India which is one of the most corrupt countries in the world, the most corrupt moniker means something. She wants to spend Rs 5,45,000 crore to feed the poor. These people cannot hold games without stealing it completely blind. How can we expect them to spend this kind of money honestly? All that is going to do is to make netas, babus and lalas rich. Why do I sound so negative? If Sonia Gandhi were sincere about feeding people of India she would have stopped the wastage of food. She has been running the country for so long and has not done anything to ensure that the food that rots out in the open gets fed to the hungry. Her government talks about building cold storages to help Walmart and other large retailers and yet they cannot build granaries to stop our grains surpluses to rot. All they have to do is build four rodent-proof walls with a waterproof roof. How difficult is that? We can build fancy living quarters for foreign athletes but we cannot build a simple building to store food! How can I believe any plan that comes out of this charade of a government?

Does that mean is a lost cause? No. I will cite two examples which will show you that simple, well meaning, honest and efficient techniques can solve most of our problems. One example is that of Bhai Narendra Modi and the other is of an entrepreneur Sarath Babu. Now if all our netas become like Bhai Narendra and all our Lalas become like Sarath Babu then we can solve the neta – Lala aspect of the equation. All we have to do is bypass the babus (IAS/PCS et. al.) and the problem would be solved.

Sarath Babu who comes from a very humble background (humble is an overstatement) who got his first degree from BITS PIlani and second from IIM-A. No shortage of such guys, right? Wrong. He did not forget his background and set off to do something which is remarkable. Here is his story:

Sarath launched Foodking in 2006, supplying snacks to banks, software firms and other corporates, with just 2,000 rupees (£24; $38) to fund the first month.But with his impressive academic pedigree, he was soon able to secure a bank loan of 100,000 rupees (£1,205; $1,890), and employed eight to 10 workers. The expansion continued, and he now has seven outlets and an annual turnover of $1.3m.
He wants to have 100 outlets by the end of this year - and 5,000 across the state eventually. Foodking aims to offer good food at affordable prices - as well as to create jobs for the poor And he hopes to inspire 1,000 entrepreneurs across the state, who too would go on to create employment opportunities for others.
Sarath's approach is clearly shaped by his humble beginnings. He is determined to provide affordable, good quality food. Foodking's meals cost 20-45 rupees (25p-54p; $0.37-0.84) each - which would more usually buy only fast food. To keep prices low, premises are simple. And while Sarath is happy to pitch in and help the workers out, he's tough on waste, challenging staff over unused chopped vegetables and taps left running.

Is this a solution to our problems? No but it is an example in efficient management which is enabling sale of affordable meals and providing employment while making profits. To use an allegory, instead of feeding fish to the hungry, he is teaching them how to fish. Of course this still is not the real solution. The real solution has been shown by Bhai Narendra Modi. The praise for him in this regards comes from the Planning Commission which is run by none other than the acting PM Manmohan Singh’s right hand man Montek Singh Ahluwalia. As per Business Standard, a Planning Commission working group set up to suggest booster shots for agriculture during the 12th plan – which starts next April – said that Gujarat and Chhattisgarh were the states to emulate. Coincidently, both states are run by the BJP. I wonder how long will it take for Digvijay Singh to brand Montek as an RSS agent!!

Gujrat’s industrial accomplishments are known the world over. However, Gujarat’s oft ignored success comes from agriculture where the state has outperformed all other states including the fertile bread baskets of India i.e. UP and Punjab. An arid state, Gujarat’s started to succeed in this field after 2002 so the Modi haters cannot deny him the credit. With small initiatives, he has managed to make his state into an agricultural success. Here are examples of some of those steps:

First, he focused on sustained water conservation and management programmes. Gujarat is one of the biggest users of drip irrigation in India today, and built many check dams, small ponds and minor irrigation sources. In 2008, Gujarat had 113,738 check dams and 240,199 little ponds dotting the state.
Second, the state launched a massive and well-coordinated extension effort – telling farmers what to grow, when to grow, how to grow and how to maximise output.
Third, Modi completely overhauled rural power supply. Even though supplies are subsidised, farmers get assured power. This contrasts with other states that offer free power, but irregularly and unpredictably.
Four, says Shankar Acharya, agriculture’s allied sectors – like livestock development – were given a boost. This ensured steady and sustainable growth in rural incomes – a prerequisite for comprehensive food security.
Five, Modi also promoted non-food crops and horticulture, Bt cotton, castor, and isabgol. Contrast this with the endless debates we now have about the dangers – or otherwise — GM seeds.
Six, Gujarat made huge investments in infrastructure – especially rural roads, electricity and ports.

These examples clearly demonstrate that we do not need to throw money at the problem. We need to work at the problem like Modi and Babu. For Sonia, spending taxpayer money to win her son the PM’ship is an easy way out to a very large problem. If we adopt her method, we will have more mega scams and the problem would remain. If we adopt the Modi / Babu solution, we can chip away at the problem and solve it eventually.

The Evil In Our Midst.

Right about the time I read Udayan Namboodri’s article on comparing corruption in India versus the evil in the world, my twelve-year-old son was writing a paper on Vlad the Impaler. He told me that Vlad was one of the most evil men ever. I told him that he was just one of the many. I gave him some examples. What I could not tell him are the examples of evil in our day to day lives. He is still too young for that.

Here is what Namboodri wrote in his article: The term “banality of evil” was coined originally by Hannah Arendt, a famous political scientist who went to Jerusalem to cover the trial of Adolf Eichmann. Eichmann initially took the stand wearing a deadpan expression, which made most people imagine how hopelessly dark and bureaucratic was the core of the Nazi mass-murder machine.

Evil in real life does not go around growling “kitne aadmi thay” like Amjad Khan’s Gabbar or “Mogambo khush hua” like Amrish Puri. Evil in real life is the harmless looking old woman who forces her daughter in law to abort her female fetus or worse, kill the baby girl. You will go past this person on a daily basis and not know it. Evil in real life is the middle class family, which exploits a child servant on a daily basis and robbing the kid of the most precious of Bholenath’s gifts – innocence.

If you look at various examples of cruelty in the history of mankind, you will realize that most evil goes unpunished. Hitler was punished. Jews in the media and elsewhere have used all their power to ensure that not a day goes by when people are reminded on the Holocaust. I understand and support them wholeheartedly. But I will cite some examples which in sheer cruelty match up with Hitler’s evil while others aspire to do so.

1. Pakistanis killed a very large number (upto Six lakh by some estmates) of Bangladeshis at a kill rate that even the Nazis could not maintain. Did anyone get punished? Tikka Khan lived comfortable till well into his eighties. Other army butchers got promoted and became prominent members of Pakistani society.

2. Jalianwalabagh massacre. Even more impressive kill rate. Thanks to Amar Shaheed Udham Singh one of the perpetrators got punished. But what about the others? What about the Indian soldiers who fired upon their brothers and sisters?

3. Entire Mughal period is replete with examples of cruelty inflicted upon Hindus but our history books have been sanitized and now the Muslims have become the victims only to be protected by our pseudo-secular champions. Cruelty covered up by a cruel joke.

4. All the people killed during the partition of the country because a slew of selfish decisions made by leaders who are now worshipped.

5. Corruption. Yes. Think about it. This is one evil which does not kill directly but it does so slowly in a way like acid dissolves metal. You know exactly what I am talking about.

6. Social practices like dowry, female feticide, killing of female babies and honor killings are all rampant practices in India which still confound any self respecting Hindu. As we have written on this blog many many times that while all kinds of female deities are worshipped in India, Indian girls are treated with an inexplicable disdain.

These are a few examples of absolute evil in just our sub-continent. Some of it happened in the past while others go on in front of our eyes. As Edmund Burke said: "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” But what can we do you ask? Of course in some cases we need to pick up a weapon or have a time machine – luxuries we cannot afford. But the victims of social evil, which happens right in front of our eyes, could use a helping hand. It is our dharma. It is our Karma. If we don’t do anything about it then we have no right to call ourselves Hindus.

Pseudo-seculars Strike Again

Just when I thought that our country is the only one loaded with a hoard of pseudo seculars – the self-proclaimed champions of humanity, religion and freedom of speech, I got a temporary solace to find out that America is soon catching up with us.

Recently, Subramanian Swamy was dismissed from Harvard after decades of teaching association. His fault - he dared to say the fact as a fact, he dared to say the unsaid, and he dared to shoot the pseudos right in the middle of their forehead.

Yes, all this happened when Dr. Swami wrote an article advocating denial of voting rights to non-Hindus with the goal of stemming terrorist attacks in India. And as expected the pseudos almost choked to death. Now they are trying to get some fresh air by dismissing him as ‘communal’, ‘anti-Islamic’ and a ‘Hindu fanatic’.

Many are stung by Dr. Swami’s article – from Congress to Congress bought media to Arabs and to the hypocrite Americans. They needed to do something urgently because if they don’t then Dr. Swami with his forty years of credibility could almost turn the tide against their well-established norms of freedom of speech - freedom of speech that is only made for people like Arundhati Roy to Geelani to Bukhari.

So therefore they kicked him out. When these high profile institutes, with a bunch of ‘highly politicized faculty’ get the colors of Islamic-mania and preach the theory of ‘political correctness’ – correctness that suits their political interests only – it is a very dangerous sign. Of course, when it receives millions in aid from people like Prince Alwaleed of Saudi Arabia, it does not leave much scope for them either.

In words of Prof. Phyllis Chesler – “This situation affects us all. The West must understand that silencing men like Professor Swamy is in a sense an act of Jihad. We are aiding the Islamic fundamentalists in their quest for domination in India and South Central Asia.”

BJP Will Lose In UP Elections

UP is the big prize for whoever wants to win in 2014 (BJP or Congress) or want to stay out of jail (Mayawati). As we have repeatedly written on this blog that no stunt will be cheap enough to win this prize. We are already seeing the evidence. Inevitably, there are reports out there which predict on which party has an advantage. There are polls doing the same. What is consistent in all those is that the big winner is going to be SP followed by BSP, Congress and BJP. My sentiments on SP, BSP and Congress are well known to the readers of this blog. For the newer readers-please read some of our older posts and you will see. What really bothers me is the BJP’s fourth finish especially because BJP owes both of their tenures at the center to the UP voters.

What is curious is how the BJP rewarded the UP voters. The BJP rewarded them with Kalyan Singh, RP Gupta and Rajnath Singh. Kalyan Singh was a capable grassroots worker with good deal of control over Lodh community votes (good ol’ caste politics) but nothing more. RP Gupta was a septuagenarian with charm, ability and enthusiasm of a wet sock. Rajnath Singh projected himself as the keeper of the Thakur votes of UP and has since exploited that into the post of CM of UP and BJP President. Despite of failing miserably at both positions, he is still around and playing the spoiler.

But that was then. Now all of the UP mess is on Gadkari. He is doing a poor job of projecting leaders in UP. He has consistently antagonized the BJP superstar i.e. Bhai Narendra Modi and nominated his bête noire as the in charge of UP elections- a man who is alien to UP politics. Gadkari could have used Modi’s help in campaign as has been desired by UP’s local leaders but he has chosen not to. He brought in Uma Bharati which was a very good move but it was too late. But as Mr. NV Subramanian writes in his article that:

But Uma Bharati can be a huge political mover. She doomed the Congress in Madhya Pradesh. Her problem is that the campaign is being pulled in other directions by other UP BJP heavyweights, including Rajnath Singh and Kalraj Mishra. Objectively speaking, neither Rajnath Singh nor Kalraj Mishra is a match for Uma Bharati, who is hungry to prove her worth to the BJP. If Mayawati has a worth contender, it is Uma Bharati. But the BJP in UP is a case of "Too many cooks...."

Ultimately it is going to be egos of people like Rajnath Singh and Kalraj Mishra which is going to sink the BJP. The responsibility of keeping such people falls on the shoulder of Gadkari who seems to be playing the Advani camp versus the Vajpayee camp games. Gadkari should have projected a young dynamic leader from the beginning and sought the help of star campaigners to win the state. Instead he is running the show like UP is just another state that the BJP has no shot of winning. If the BJP cannot defeat someone like Mayawati then they should just pack it in for the 2014 elections as well. After all, other than the CM’s of the BJP ruled states, none of their leaders inspire any confidence.

Missed opportunity
At one level, you would think both the BJP and Congress are reconciled to defeats in Uttar Pradesh, and are content to compete for the third and fourth spots. If that is so, it is sad. The backwardness of the so-called cow belt but particularly UP partly drags India down. If either of the two national parties had a spell of power in UP, it would do the state and the country good. And only Uttar Pradesh has the singular capacity to end the interminable cycle of weak and visionless coalition rule at the Centre.

Nitish Kumar: Votes vs Islamic Terrorism

State of Bihar seems to be cursed. After shedding the yokels of Lalloo rule they elect themselves a capable leader who has done nothing but good things. Of course an argument can be made that seeing where Bihar was before Nitish Kumar, anything he does is going to be positive. But by and large he has done good things. Having said that, we all saw what seemed to be signs of pseudo-secular hypocrisy in the man. While he was and is emulating Bhai Narendra Modi, he did not want to be seen sharing a campaign platform with him. I guess he deems Muslim votes to be too important. Which is why his state has now come to this pass. Bihar now has become the latest terror central thanks to activities of Indian Mujahideen.

The theory about disaffected Muslims will not work. There are more of them in Gujarat or at least that is what every liberal in India would have you believe. Of course proximity to Nepal and Bangladesh is a factor. Nepal’s Muslim politicians are nothing more than faces of ISI. The old practice of tacitly supporting illegal immigration from Bangladesh is now coming to haunt us in a much bigger way. It has gone from being a socio-economic problem to one of security. Thanks you CPI / other Communists / Congress / Lalloo / assorted pseudo secular traitors!!

What is stopping Nitish Kumar from getting the state law enforcement (since he probably cannot get any help from the central government) to go after these terrorists? Is it political correctness in the name of votes? From Nitish Kumar’s snub of Narendra Modi it would seem to be the case. What seems to be eluding Nitish Kumar is that the BJP did better than his own party in the last state elections (BJP had a much higher percent of wins – seats won versus contested). This indicates that either his coalition is getting the Muslim votes despite of the BJP or those votes are not a factor at all.

He would be well advised to wake up and smell the cordite before it is too late. Illegal Bangladeshis are not only a drain on the state but also a source of terror. He needs to tackle that head on. He also needs to come down on the Bihari Muslims who are supporting the IM. Security of the state and the country trump possible hurt sentiments. He needs to emulate Bhai Narendra Modi in more ways than one.

The recent arrest of Indian Mujahideen operatives in Bihar has confirmed the suspicions of the Indian intelligence agencies that the dreaded terror outfit was trying to set up a base in the state.

With nearly 20 million illegal immigrants in India -- most of whom are in Bihar and West Bengal -- the task ahead appears to be extremely tough. There are only a handful of ideological terrorists in these modules while the rest of them have been recruited for money. This would mean that they carry out the operation and then slip out, thus leaving no trail.

Agnipareeksha For UP Voters!

We all knew Mayawati was making money but did not have the details. Now we know it was through her brother. In fact he is nothing more than a money launderer. He opened up dummy companies and converted the black money into white by showing it as profit. I guess he was in such a hurry and had so much to convert that he made some mistakes. They are as follows as described by BJP’s Kirit Somaiya

Somaiya identified one of these companies as "DKN Infrastructure Pvt Ltd that was shown to have earned a profit of Rs 37 crores when the total business transacted was of the order of Rs 34 crores."

Another company was identified as Adept Realcom Pvt Ltd., showing profit of Rs. 15 cores. There was no description of the type of business it had transacted over the two years of its existence.

The case of the third company -- Naveen Infradevelopers and engineers pvt ltd -- was even more intriguing . While the total transaction of the three-year old company did not exceed Rs 30,000, it received an usecured loan of Rs 67 crores and also gave away advances to the tune of Rs 62 crores.

Surprisingly, the fourth company named by Somaiya had transacted business worth only about Rs 8,000.

What are the government agencies doing? Are the employees of the tax department asleep at the wheels? Or do I smell collusion?

To deal with these accusations, Mayawati and her team have taken a page out of Karunanidhi book and have described them as "reflection of anti-dalit mindset of the BJP."

This should be an affront to every self-respecting dalit. The Dalit–Muslim-Brahmin group elected these people who have not looked after anyone's interest except their own. Entire state has been paying for their sins and seems like the dark days will continue.

As we have written on this blog that UP is a big prize and political parties are going to do their worst to win it. Too much and money and too much power comes with a win. That is why it is up to the voters of UP to make a choice. Continue to trust the state and future of their families in the hands of people like Mayawati, Anand Kumar, Vichitra Lata and Yadav Singh or vote for a change. All they need to do and see their neighbors to the east. After dumping Lalloo Yadav and electing Nitish Kumar, the Biharis are on a road to recovery. UP can do the same. There are no capable leaders in Congress (we would have seen them by now) or SP or BSP. Even the BJP has propped up one bad choice after another. The BJP owes it to the people of UP (who elected them to the center) to find another Narendra Modi and project him or her as their CM.

Among those who were alleged to have been hand-in-glove with him was Noida's powerful chief engineer Yadav Singh. Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, Somaiya sought to point out how Anand Kumar had floated as many as 26 companies over the recent past "solely for parking his ill gotten wealth that was discreetly converted as profit of those very companies."

FDI In Retail: A Scam Nipped In The Bud

Mr. B Raman who is a retired government employee is very well connected all over the world and is quite an authority on security and political matters. He has also successfully managed to be neutral when it comes to politics. In short he is a man to be taken seriously. When he goes out on the limb criticizing the abject lack of leadership in India, I guess things must really be bad. Of course political animals like us always knew and said it. Mr. Raman was just holding it back till he could no more. In his latest article which seems to lament the loss of decorum and gravitas in the Loksabha he makes two points. One is that he does not think that Sonia and Manmohan can provide any kind of leadership. I guess debacle after debacle forced him to change his mind. The latest being the FDI in retail and the way the Congress tried to ram it down the nation’s gullet. They were badly stung by Mamta Bannerjee and essentially have been reduced to a lame duck government now.

In an article, NV Subramanian calls out Manmohan on a very poor demonstration of leadership and says that the FDI was a diversionary tactic. This is where the Raman article is interesting which claims the following:

Some retired senior officials with whom I had discussed this in Delhi last week attributed the haste displayed by the Congress to its urgent need for funds for the UP elections next year. They alleged that some corporate houses, which would be the main beneficiaries of the FDI decision, were expected to be the main contributors to the coffers of the Congress for the UP elections. According to them, the determination of other political parties to prevent the Congress from financially benefiting from the decision before the UP elections accounted for their obduracy in preventing the normal functioning of the two Houses.

There is no reason the doubt the veracity of Mr. Raman’s information. This means that the FDI in retail was just another huge scam in the making. It is not only criminal but also cruel that the Congress is treating the Indian taxpayer’s money and Indian Infrastructure as an ATM. The Indian voters are being punished for their mistake of electing the Congress. However the punishment has far far exceeded the crime. It is cruel and unusual.

Shame On The Voters Of Bellary

The voters of Bellary have chosen to elect a person who essentially is a henchman of the Reddy Brothers who have been raping the Bellary mines. As we have repeatedly written on this blog that we think that the Reddy brothers spread their tentacles by paying bribes to all political parties. The BJP eventually did the right thing and punished the guilty. YSR and his family are also in hot waters. Now we find out that our sitting Foreign Minister and tow other Congress CMs are also embroiled in this scam. But they are politicians and being a thief comes with the turf.

However by electing the Reddy brothers' henchman, the voters of Bellary have done such a great disservice to the nation. Obviously the Reddy brothers have either bullied and seduced the voters of Bellary. The Circumstances indicate that the latter must be true. This must have been an extremely watched election (especially with BJP CM in Bangluru). I don't have any knowledge of how the Bellary voters fell for the Reddy brothers but they did. They are sending the wrong message to politicians and saying that we, the voters are equally corruptible. I and sick and disgusted with these voters. Shame on them!!

Dynastic Rule and Sycophancy

Concentration of power is an evil in any democracy. That power feeds off on sycophancy. When the power is dynastic in nature, sycophancy is raised to the level of worship. We in India have been under dynastic rule for most of our free lives. It has done nothing but hurt us. Even a part time student of history knows that.

Congressmen brought back Sonia and Rahul just when it seemed they had broken the shackles of the dynastic rule to reunite the party. A tragedy of the highest order as it led to the most corrupt regimes in our history of which the two have no idea other than what the group of chamchas tells them. To them India is Gandhi family and Gandhi family is India.

Now all these minions owe their position to their proximity to the power center. The closer you are to the Gandhi family the more powerful you are. You get plum posts or ministries based on how you sing the paeans in their honor. People like Ahmad Patel or Ambika Soni or Oscar Fernandez are essentially ruling India by proxy because they are really really close to Madam.

All Indians despite of their party affiliations respect Sardar Patel. Man was a true patriot, visionary and the Iron Man India needed then and has since missed. This is what was said about his anniversary:

As coincidences go, Patel's birth anniversary falls the same day Indira Gandhi was assassinated. This year, the BJP noticed the indifference towards him, and asked why the government had issued just one ad in his honour, while dozens were issued to mark Indira Gandhi's death anniversary.

Congress workers from various states were taking out ads after ads (not from their pockets obviously) in honor of Indira Gandhi. The following was said about that in another article:

Moral of the story: You may be India’s greatest freedom-fighter, visionary or statesman, and you may be fondly remembered by the people across the land. But, if you do not belong to the Nehru-Gandhi Family, India’s Congress-run Government will not remember you. For how long will we allow the public exchequer to be milked for the political promotion of a single family and the icons of a single party?

If the chamchagiri was limited to taking out ads in the newspapers, we would still be OK. What is really bothersome is the sheer number of projects, monuments, landmarks and public property (bridges, airports etc.) have been named after Members of the Gandhi family. People from Congress have no locus standi when they criticize Mayawati on her penchant for parks and statues to honor herself. The intrepid Mr. A Suryaprakash has compiled these in a document and submitted to the CEC. The list is mind-boggling but you must go through it. What you will realize is that unless we vote the dynasty out, meritocracy would always yield to sycophancy and that is not the way India can progress.

Rajiv Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, which has been submitted to the Election Commission by A.Surya Prakash as an Annexure to his complaint. Pakistan: Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum?

There is a scene in Deewar. Vijay (Big B) laments that he and his younger brother came from under the same bridge and yet he had achieved so much while his brother was languishing in a lowly paid police job. Of course that was a movie with the younger brother walking away with the line “Mere paas Ma hai” because he was on the right side of things.

India and Pakistan could have a similar conversation. Of course the “bigger” brother would be on the right side of things here. Pakistan does not get to walk away with a clever line. While India has become an example in Democracy and progress, Pakistan has become a basket case. How did they come to such a pass?

Since Muslims were not really expecting a separate country, they were not prepared for a post independent Pakistan. It took them over ten years to come up with a constitution. This gave rise to a bureaucracy and Army with unlimited power. Moreover there were no land reforms so the Punjabi landowners became the almighty slave owners. I am not kidding about that. I have read that these people had their private jails where the bonded laborers were locked up in the nighttime (I read that in early 1990’s. It may have changed by now). These three power centers refused to abide by the new constitution. The army continued with its merry ways of making money and daydreaming of having a meal in New Delhi while hoisting the Pakistani flag over the Red Fort. The Bureaucracy played along and started a system where the future generations of Pakistanis were nothing more than India hating automatons. In fact, looking back at the ethnic fault lines in Pakistan (Punjabis, Bengalis, Pathans, Kashmiris stuck in Pakistan, Balochis, Sindhis and the unfortunate Mohajirs) it is amazing how long has that country stayed together (only losing half of it) despite of the fact that it’s raison d'être is hatred for Hindus and India. Matters only became worse after Zia Ul Haq became the terrorist in charge. Armed with nukes Pakistani Amry, ISI and their veritable arm i.e. the terrorists including the Taliban, they went on to take on all their enemies i.e. India. Of course they were ably helped by the Chinese, Saudi Arabians and in some parts the USA (who themselves were so blinded in their hatred for the Russians that they helped create the man who changed the world forever – Osama Bin Laden).

While this was going on, the Pakistanis still were doing better than Indians in various parameters like per capita income, Hunger and poverty. Yes. It may be surprising to the young Indians but that is the truth.

However, in the early 1990s, two things happened. Pakistan continued on its slippery slope while India saw the light through the eyes of PV Narsimha Rao who abandoned the Nehruvian policies in Economics. Even Manmohan Singh could not screw things up for us. We broke the shackles of the Gandhi family and broke free towards what should have been (that we find ourselves again in the same trouble is a testimony to our misfortune and naiveté). So today, India stands as a shining example (with miles and miles to go before we rest) in the world. On the other hands, Pakistan has become the proverbial “ga-lay ki haddi” for the world.

Unless Pakistan abandons its hatred for India and Hindus, there is no stopping it from descending into hell. Only Pakistanis can stop that.

Competition is good. Walmart Is Not.

Competition is good. It always leads to improvement all around. But is has to be a fair one. Unfair competition leads to destruction of the norm. Examples are all around us. However, the world is not a fair place. That and human nature together has led to protectionism. Even the most prosperous countries and largest economies indulge in just that. The US is known to give their farmers massive subsidies. The Chinese manipulate their currency to gain the upper hand. We would expect our government to do the same to protect our traditional ways of doing business instead of creating unfair competition. What Prof. Vaidyanathan said last year (we wrote a blog on this topic last year) was that the GoI needs to protect our dhoti-clad entrepreneur instead of subjecting them to a competition, which they are not equipped to deal with. The local shopkeeper can compete with the others in the market but is not equipped to deal with some outfit like the Walmart. That is what the point of discussion is.

If leeches were to evolve into sophisticated predators, that being would aptly describe the Walmart. What I have read is that it began as a store, which only sold stuff, made in America as a response to the Japanese domination of the production sector. But then they evolved into a company which did what the Japanese were doing except they raised that practice to an art. Today everything sold in Walmart is made in China. The Walmart executives use their financial muscles to bully all involved to keep the prices ridiculously low. By this they have driven everyone around out of business. The Corporation, the buyers and the Chinese owners are the winners. However, the American manufacturers and American small business owners have been destroyed. The Americans have managed to survive by other means being a powerful and (still) an upwardly mobile economy. Innovation supported by (still the best) an infrastructure. India and Indians do not have the same advantages.

If we bring in Walmart, we will be flooded with Chinese made stuff at prices which would destroy our small businessmen and manufacturers. As Prof. Vaidyanathan says:

More than 125 lakh kirana stores provide a source of livelihood to 16 crore people. Retail trade has grown faster than the economy: it registered a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.4% between 2004-05 and 2008-09 when the Indian economy grew at 8.66%. The retail trade comprises all kinds of people and formats — from street vendors to departmental stores of various types, shapes and characteristics.

This segement of our economy deserves all the protection we can get. They keep jobs and money in India. Walmart will send the jobs to China and money to America. Manmohan and Montek Singh need to pull their heads out of American made sand and smell the “chai”.

Why Would A Peaceful Indian Slap Sharad Pawar?

You get older. It is expected that you will evaluate your life. What you are trying to do is to look for the things you would not have done but did anyway. It is called atonement. We all want to go into our next life with as little baggage as possible. If you are not a Hindu then you want to meet the maker with similar liability. That is how a normal human being behaves. Of course if you are a sociopath who is completely lacking the empathy gene, the kind of person who looks at misery and death with an amused curiosity, the kind of person who cannot tell “paap” from “punya” or right from wrong then retrospection is not your cup of tea.

Based on this one would expect our politicians, especially the ones who are getting up in age to look at the man in the mirror once in a while. I don’t think these guys do that. If they did then their morality will change, seismically in some cases. However, no one has changed. Every single one of them is the same person they were. The only conclusion we have is that all of them are amoral sociopaths. Not very comforting, is it?

There is some recourse left for the aam aadmi. Voting them out is one. But that would bring the next set of bastards in. Then what? Even though I do not condone violence, one cannot overlook the extreme importance of symbolic acts of violence, the kind that humiliates rather than hurt. Hurling a slipper or lashing out with a slap. Indian society and others used to do that. When a person was caught doing something immoral they were made to sit on a donkey with shoes around their neck. In the west, they used to tar and feather. Since our politicians are sociopaths who enjoy and love their facade of respectability, shame would be a powerful punishment. It would send an unmistakable message that not all is right even if you scream so.

In that light, one can see why Indians who are by and large the most peaceful people on the planet would take the extreme step of lashing out on fellow human beings. The protest against politicians used to be limited to negative “naarey-baazi” or sloganeering. However, in the last two UPA regimes, things have gone form extremely bad to putrid. Even the most peaceful and laid back India is getting angry and feels pushed into the corner. One such Indian lashed out and slapped Sharad Pawar who epitomizes institutionalized corruption. Of course in this case, my sympathy and I am sure yours as well lie with our Sikh brother who took this extreme step. I hope that we all would come out in support of our brother if he were to be tortured or punished in any other unlawful way.

Meanwhile I hope this is a lesson for all of the Indian politicians. I hope they realize that in today’s India, drug dealers and petty criminals have much higher credibility than them. If they do not get their act together, the aam aadmi reserves the right to come after them with pitch forks and other farm equipment like the medieval times. They are the ones responsible for these times.

Samudra Manthan In The Pacific

A few things have happened in the Pacific which seem unremarkable and expected. Their significance is revealed upon close inspection. I will list them for you.

1.China has become increasingly belligerent with its neighbors in the Pacific. They want all of the resource rich Spratley Islands to themselves.

2.They also want to control the sea lanes around those islands including the ones in Malacca straits. An Indian navy ship was bullied by the Chinese navy in that area.

3.They have abandoned Deng Xiaoping’s peaceful rise mantra. After his death, the leadership ceded a lot of power to the PLA who are now flexing their muscles, trying to take revenge on all who have slighted them recently or historically. Chinese rise is now anything but peaceful.

4.Japan has gotten over India’s nuclear tests and are now ready to deal with us even on defense matters.

5.India is an important defense partner with Vietnam, the country which gave the Chinese a bloody nose in 1979. Our “Look East” policy has paid good dividends.

6.Suddenly the Australians have decided to overcome their revulsion for us and sell us Uranium.

7.In a summit in Bali and in Australia, President Obama repeatedly asserted that the US was and is a Pacific power. He repeated it many times.

8.US has decided to open a US Marine base in Northern Australia.

Let me try to weave all these seemingly disparate events into what is about to become the new alliance (albeit a loose one). In 2000, President Bush and his VP proposed to revive SEATO (South East Asia Treaty Organization) which included countries like Australia, France, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. A sort of the Asian NATO. It dissolved in 1977. The primary purpose of the revival was to counter any threats from China. After all, the events mentioned in points 1 to 3 are now exactly new. They just have become more obvious now. This time, India was to have played a major role. Unfortunately for us and the world, 9/11 happened and the Bush administration’s attention got diverted. The proposal died. Since then the Chinese behavior has gone from bad to worse. All their neighbors are worried to scared. The Chinese have spared no opportunity is confronting the US in the Pacific. It is as if the PLA WANTS a showdown with the US to establish what they perceive as their place in the hierarchy of nations. They are itching for a fight.

None of this is lost on the US who are still the biggest military power in the world. They realize that all of the Chinese neighbors are worried especially India. They are right. We are surrounded by Pakistan who is a Chinese attack dog, Bangladesh who is one election away from becoming another Pakistan, Burma who is already in Chinese pocket and the Sri Lankans who feel slighted by Tamilnadu politicians have accommodated the Chinese navy in the Hambantota seaport. We could use some help here.

Now why do you think that the Australians have had a change of heart about Uranium? I think that there must have been some pressure from the US. Why would the US want to help India? I think that Indian involvement in any new security arrangement is inevitable. After all, after China, we are the strongest nation in Asia. Without us, the dragnet around China will be incomplete. Does this mean we are preparing for a fourth world war? No. What we are preparing for is another cold war where we make the Chinese realize the wisdom of the Deng Xiaoping. The Chinese have way too much invested in the rest of the world to provoke a situation conducive to the fourth big one.

So what should we do? We should look back at the days of NAM and our international isolation. We should push the boundaries of our “Look East” policy. Since there will not be any formal SEATO like organization, the risk is next to nothing. As it is we are making defense pacts with Vietnam and Japan and that has not gone down the Chinese throats well. Might as well make more pacts of that kind. There is a quite “Samudra Manthan” going on in the pacific. I hope that Government of India would shun any noise from the leftists and join in.

Who Cares For The Pakistani Hindus?

Manmohan says Gilani is a man of peace. Pakistanis are saying they want to do business with us and want to resolve all the issues. Liberals and jholawalas are happy. Yup. All the problems have been solved. Manmohan’s charm offensive is finally paying dividends.

Now where have we seen all this before? It seems life a formulaic Hindi movie where brother unite at the end. Alas those are movies and some of them were even funny. This is real life. Those who can see are shaking their heads in disgust. If you scroll down, you will see that we wrote on this blog about this very topic. We are falling for the wily Pakistanis again for the umpteenth time. Pakistanis need to have peace on the eastern from to deal with the Americans. When the US leaves Afghanistan, the pakis will go back to their original selves. I would be willing to bet some money on that. Why? I will try to explain. Please forgive my meandering but I have to make my case.

Recently, some prominent Hindus in Pakistan were gunned down. In Sindh area, Hindu girls have been kidnapped, forcibly converted and married off to Muslims. Hindus in Lahore area have adopted Muslim names to survive. The 12% Hindus in Pakistan at the time of partition is now down to 2%. They were either killed or converted. Hindus who come to India do not want to go back. Why is that? If the pakis claim to be who they are then why would the Hindus need to live like this? After all, even in the scary badlands of Gujarat that is ruled by the devil himself (i.e. Bhai Narendra) Muslims are not only living well but also prospering. They do not call themselves Hindu names or are afraid that their women would be forcibly converted.

As much as the pakis would like to harp upon the secular credentials of Jinnah, the fact is that he was an opportunistic, “al taqqiya” practicing bastard. People who followed him are worse. In fact the downward spiral achieved Dante’s Inferno like status during Zia ul Haq days. Now of course it is pure hell. Forget the Hindus, the terrorists are not even sparing the few remaining moderate Muslims. How did this happen? As we wrote on this blog last year and as was written by Amir Mir to no ones surprise that the Pakistani textbooks are teaching hatred. This kind of systematic brainwashing has now polluted at least the last two or three generations of pakis. The paki polity and the army are filled with these terrorist automatons. How can we even think of achieving peace with this kind of ideology permeating through various layers of paki society?

Does that mean we should abandon attempts to at least achieve a functional peace. We should not. We should communicate with them. Speak softly but carry a huge stick. Go in with eyes ears and brains open and closed hearts. Emotions should never enter the picture. Leave the “mere dushman mere bhai” sentiments to the idiots from Bollywood.

In the interim, what do we do about the remaining Hindus in Pakistan? Or for that matter Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and elsewhere? For that I propose the Israel model. India is the only country for Hindus, political secularism aside. We can migrate to the west but at the end of the day, it is the only place for us. For the Hindus of the world, we should open our borders. If they can establish their ancestral roots in India, then they should be welcomed with open arms. India should be the lighthouse for the Hindus who are lost at sea. This goes double for our hapless brothers and sisters from Pakistan. GoI should not only let them live here but also help them make a life here.

Let Modi Campaign in UP

In any organization, there are those who rise because of hard work and capability. Then there are those who rise on charm, oratory and proximity to the right people. The latter may do very well but will never ever earn the respect of the middle to lower level leaders and grassroots workers. That is because the respect has to be earned. It does not come with the post. That is why you would find the latter kind are disciples of Machiavelli who famously said: It is better to be feared than loved, if you cannot be both. The Gandhi family is that way. The BJP also have their share of these false prophets. You have people like Arun Jaitley in top positions despite of never having won any election personally. Whenever he has been in charge of a BJP campaign in a state election, the results have been less than pretty. Then we have Nitin Gadkari who seems to be the BJP’s poor answer Digvijay Singh (there is no one like Digvijay Singh) who seems to be busy shooting of his mouth instead of making good decisions in a quite and effective manner.

As far as the former kind are concerned, I have been telling my friend Swami Thambi that at the end of the day no matter what the perceived baggage, Bhai Narendra Modi is the tallest leader the BJP has. He has earned the respect of the middle and lower tier leaders along with the workers. He has done that by being a performer and a winner. During the elections in Bihar, the party workers wanted him to campaign. Of course Nitish Kumar who still has pretensions of being a secular leader snubbed him. Now in UP which is the most crucial reaction facing the BJP, the local leaders and workers want Modi to campaign. However, Gadkari is not only keeping him out but have made a Modi baiter in charge of UP elections even though the man has little to do with UP. Gadkari is justifying this with the elusive Muslim votes in mind. As per a report this is what a BJP MLA from eastern UP said:

"Are the Muslims dying to vote the BJP? Modi has a tremendous ability to motivate our cadres, our hard-core backers and even some of the floating voters. He's an asset."

Though dripping with sarcasm, the statement rings true. Muslims in Gujarat may vote for Modi because then benefit from him directly. However, Muslims in the rest of the country are a brainwashed lot thanks to the efforts of the pseudo secular politicians, media and their own leaders. THEY WILL NEVER EVER VOTE FOR THE BJP. That is why the BJP should try to mobilize their Hindu base and ensure a maximization of Hindu votes in their favor. Who better to mobilize that base than Modi? That should be more than enough to capture UP or any other state. Gadkari should worry more about the party’s success and less about his own fat ego. I hope that he does not end up cutting his nose to spite his face.

Rahul, Mayawati Aur UP Ka Tamasha

Mayawati has to win UP elections next year. The post of CM gives her power to manipulate the UP polity to her advantage in 2014. She needs her 35 plus MPs for her political survival and staying out of jail. I am sure she does not want to suffer like Jagan Reddy. The UPA already has her tied neatly to the Taj Corridor scam. Of course the way she has run UP, scams are not going to be hard to unearth to implicate her. That is why she is going to do whatever it takes to win next year. No trick is too cheap. No low is too low to achieve. She is a master manipulator of caste politics. Just like Lalloo Yadav was in his heydays. She has wrestled the Dalit-Muslim-Brahmin votebank from the Congress. While she was busy building parks in her honor, some of her flock went astray. She has now started to work on bringing them home. Her latest cheap trick is to promise reservation for the upper caste poor. Wow! The slice of the pie for qualified people continues to get smaller and smaller. How the hell is one going to qualify for being upper caste poor? What is upper caste? Of course the logistics are unimportant because all this is an election ploy, never to be implemented. She just has to make it believable enough for the ignorant voter to fall for it. Similar tricks and social engineering has already begun in her camp.

On the Congress side, Rahul Gandhi has failed miserably whichever state election he has managed. So miserable has been his performance that even Digviajy Singh has denied being his mentor. Inside reports have indicated that the senior Congressmen find him “un-coachable”. For him to have any fair claim over the throne, he has to have Congress do well in UP next year. The cost of failure would be an abject loss of credibility amongst the non-family-loyal Congress personnel, the number of whom seems to be growing. Of course, he hopes that the victory in UP will lead to a Congress comeback in 2014. They need the lion’s share of the 80 plus MPs from UP. They have already bungled up their chances in Andhra. Haryana is no longer a sure bet. NCP is flexing their muscle in Maharashtra. Skeletons after skeletons keep stumbling out of the Congress closet in Rajasthan. You see, UP is extremely important for Rahul’s survival as a viable Congress leader. Just like Mayawati, the Congress are also not going to stop from using all and every means to win UP next year.

The BJP need to win in UP because the loss of Hindi heartland has essentially relegated them to the opposition benches forever. To win they have sought the help of Uma Bharati who was brought back from a “van-vaas”. She is suppose to attract the Lodh community votes. Apparently those votes are like the Lingayat community votes in Karnataka. Of course, the BJP who are known to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory are still haunted by the specter of Advani who is refusing to go away. I am sure they will find some way of losing in UP again.

Of course sensing the advantageous position they are in, the UP Muslims have started to clamor for reservation for Muslim Dalits. Isn’t a term like Muslim dalit a contradiction in terms? Are not all Muslims same? By branding some of their flock as dalit, are they not going against tenets of their Prophet? Of course, even the hypocrisy of Indian Muslim leadership fails to explain it all.

We on this blog have always felt that the large number of MP’s from UP make it a prize big enough for political parties to find more corrupt and sleazier ways to win it. As we can see it, the tamasha in UP has already begun. We need to take care lest we shake our heads in disgust so much that we get whiplashes.

Of course we can always pray to Bholenath that the UP voters have their Bihar moment next year. After all, our Bihari brothers and sisters threw out lalloo. I am sure the UP voters can do the same for the future of their children. Their's is already ruined.

Modi In China. Manmohan In Maldives.

The US denied Narendra Modi entry into the country. The State Department got bullied by the liberals. China received Modi. They don’t care about liberals. They care about business. They received Modi as they would a leader of stature. Of course with the Chinese involved, I always get suspicious. But the is not the point here. The points in my view are as follows.

1. The mainstream media ignored Modi’s visit even though it bothered the hell out of the leftists. After all how can their grand daddy be nice to a vile man such as Modi!! Anything that bothers the leftists must be OK. This is what was said in a blog on Rediff: In fact, actor Shabana Azmi, known for close Leftist links, is said to have called up a senior Left leader to find out whether they were doing something about it. She was, of course, told that Modi’s visit was something between two governments and Indian Communists should make no noise. The Left’s unstated irritation is that, despite being targeted by them for the 2002 riots, Modi managed to impress his hosts

2. The visit bothered the liberal rag, Times of India which was expecting him to abandon his Hindu nationalistic ideology in favor of Chinese business. Much to their surprise / chagrin Modi spoke clearly about the Chinese army’s presence in PoK and Pakistani perfidy amongst other seemingly contentious issues. This is a remarkable departure from the usual timid Indian response to the Chinese. Now there is a leader with guts and gumption.

3. Bengal used to be the most prosperous and industry driven state. That was before the commies took over. Now it is a shell of its former self. Going from 224,132 man-days lost because of strikes in 2001 and lockouts in 53 establishments in the same year, Gujarat by 2010 had a mere 41,128 man-days lost and 18 strikes and lockouts.
Of course this stat does not include the strikes backed by the commies in the rest of the country. Who can forget the all India Bandh called by the commies during the UPA-1 when they were in power. I don’t even know how many man-hours were lost.

4. The list of proposals from China for Gujarat is very impressive. It is such that one can start talking about Sino-Gujarat ties rather than Sino-India ties. Now the delusional leftists would give the credit to the hard working Gujaratis but the fact remains that the Gujaratis have always been hardworking. They have never had a leader of Modi’s caliber. Now they are shining. It is really refreshing that Bhai Narendra Modi is not depending upon the central government for foreign businesses. He is bringing in investments despite of them. In fact what he is doing for his state should be a model for what should be done for India.

5. However, if you compare his visit with Manmohan Singh’s visit to the Malidives. You will really wonder why we have Singh as a PM and not Modi. Singh committed one blunder after another. Not to be outdone by his boss, SM Krishna who was only too happy to shake Hina Rabbani Khar’s hand showed clearly that Indian Foreign Ministry has fallen for the Pakistani ploys of getting India off their backs while they deal with the US pressures and drone attacks.

Andhra Pradesh: Congress’ Cash Cow

When it comes to bribing politicians, it is a prudent policy to bribe both sides. So to think that the Reddy brothers were sharing their loot with the BJP brass in Karnataka is completely wrong. Some of the money had to have gone to the other side. It turns out that a lot of money was given to YSR Reddy. His son is getting investigated for very large amount of money which was given to the family by Reddy brothers.

If you look at the richest MPs in India, most of them come from Andhra and all of them belong to Congress. Most of them are in real estate. It smells, don’t you think? Don’t you think these guys do contribute to the Congress coffers? After all, the Congress spent over 400 crores in the 2009 general elections. That amount of money cannot be anyone’s hard earned cash. For the Congress, Andhra has been a state which gives them the most MPs and money. A true cash cow indeed!

Wikipedia cables showed that the corruption in Andhra during YSR’s days was higher than the rest of the country. That, folks, should tell you something. YSR, Jagan and Vijayamma, with Hindu sounding names, tilak on the forehead, saffron string (known by various names in different states) on their wrists while displaying obscenely large cross on their obscenely expensive home have been taking the Andhra aam aadmi for a ride all these years. They would still be enjoying their loot if they had toed the Gandhi family line. After all they were a source of money and are Christians. Who would wish them ill in Congress. Yet, some boneheaded moves later, Jagan is finding himself on the defensive. Right thing is happening for the wrong reason. I hope the Andhra voters are watching this closely and will reject these criminal demagogues.

Jagan has told his party workers that in case he is arrested, they should ensure that a large number of Congress MLAs defect to his party. His mother Vijayamma will lead the party in his absence. Vijayamma has a personal connection with many Congress MLAs dating back to the days when her husband, the late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy , was leading the party. Vijayamma's presence at the helm of affairs may prompt as many as 20 YSR loyalists to leave the Congress and join Jagan's party. These candidates were handpicked by YSR and he had campaigned extensively for them before the polls. Vijayamma had been present at her husband's side during these campaigns and she shares a special bond with them.

Graft during YSR rule in AP was above norm in India: US cableShare

The YSR government's 'flagship programmes' – construction of irrigation projects and houses for weaker sections – were beset with corruption even as Rajasekhara Reddy used the populist spending programmes to great political effect, the cable said.
"Typically, five to seven per cent is lost to corruption, but in Reddy's irrigation programme that figure is more like 15 to 20 per cent," he said. While the housing programme will cost $4 to 6 billion, the irrigation programme costs more than $11 billion over five years on 26 major irrigation projects, the US cable said.

What If Narendra Modi Says “Sky Is Blue”?

Normally we do not refer to other blogs but one of them caught my eye which flummoxed me. The author seems to suggest that Mamta Banerjee needs to learn from Jayalalitha. The article has been written in the wake of a large number of infant moralities in Poschim Bongo hospitals. The author says the following:

One wonders whether Mamata can learn a tip or two from Jayalalithaa — at least when it come to governance. When children die in Bengal hospitals, Mamata can’t think of anything but blame the Marxists! But look at Jayalalithaa. Her politics of putting down her political rivals, the DMK, also includes creating better hospital care in Tamil Nadu!
Jayalalithaa on November2 announced that the modern Anna centenary library in Chennai, a multi-crore project of the earlier DMK government, will be converted into a super speciality paediatric hospital. The library would shift to a new integrated intellectual park to be housed in an alternative site in the city.

The is giving way too much credit to Jayalalitha. After all who has forgotten her own financial transgressions. She is not an honest person. Of course compared to the DMK crew, she is a light weight, thus lesser of the two evils and hence elected. When it comes to Mamta B, we have repeatedly written on this blog that she is great in an opposition position but not in the ruling seat. She is a rabble rouser who thrives on blaming others. All of her administrative moves have not shown any initiative, imagination or decisiveness. She is good at blackmailing the UPA into giving her state money and state run projects for job creation. She can blame the Commies now but soon she will have to own up to the status quo in the state.

Coming back to Jayalalitha and her so called good governance, she is no statesperson or even a leader. She is as corrupt as any of the politicians and as vain as Mayawati. But she does know what works and what will get her re-elected. She is taking pages out of Nitish Kumar’s books. But to her credit, she is unabashedly emulating Bhai Narendra Modi. She does not shy away from associating herself with him as opposed to the pseudo secular crowd who would treat the plague better than they would Modi. Mamta Banerjee should learn from Modi just like Jayalalitha. The blogger who wrote the article in question seems to have overlooked that.

So what if Narendra Modi said that the sky was blue? Will the pseudo secular crowd dispute that? The point is, our religion and culture encourages adopting wisdom no matter what the source. Modi is doing a lot of good things for his state. Don’t t bring the man down. Study his methods. Adopt his methods. Adopt his policies. Emulate his work ethics. Put your own state on a path to success. People of India deserve that. What they do not deserve is dealing with petty egos of corrupt politicians.

One would have thought that all the education that our PM has had, he would be above the usual Congress / regional party / liberal churlishness. But an article by the intrepid Kanchan Gupta suggests otherwise. It seems that Modi was the head of the Working Group on Consumer Affairs with the Chief Ministers of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu as other members. As Mr. Gupta says:

The committee was set up in April 2010 to suggest ways and means of holding the price line for essential commodities. By early this year, the report was finalised and it has been gathering dust in some corner of the Prime Minister’s Office for the past six months. It’s not a voluminous report crammed with senseless data and meaningless jargon. That’s not Mr Modi’s style. It’s a slim report which lists 20 recommendations with 64 detailed actionable points for their expeditious implementation.

If you read Mr. Gupta’s article, you will realize that the suggestions are eminently possible to adopt and implement. However, because it comes from Modi, it has been cast aside. Probably thrown in trash. Food prices have gone up so much that one cannot even make jokes about it. Forget the much talked Indian prosperity trickling down to the aam aadmi. Let them at least get one proper meal a day. How about a little heart and compassion? People making Rs 32 are not even being considered poor. Being a poor in India is worse than being a criminal because life has become a punishment.

Mr. PM, if implementing Mr. Modi’s suggestions can alleviate some of that pain, please – in the name of all things good, adopt them. Alleviating hunger would make for a better legacy than chasing the mirage of a friendship with the Pakistanis.

Indian F1 Circuit and Bhagwan Buddh

Leave it to the BBC and foreigners to lament Indian poverty and pose this question: How will the Grand Prix change India? We leave it to them because it is too painful for us to search for an honest answer. I will step forward with my two paisas and say that it will change nothing for the aam aadmi. The cost of this abomination is $400 million dollars. It was made on land which was taken from landowners who were compensated well. However, the poor landless farmers who used to work on that land are now out of a job. The last race is over. Indian glitterati have had their fun. Bharat Ratnas like Sachin Tendulkar (who recently moved into a modest 70 crore house) was there as well. Metallica, Lady Gaga and Shahrukh Khan had a ball. But now what?

The car circuit was made under Behenji Mayawati’s care. She named it after Bhagwan Buddh. Yes. The same guy who was of the opinion that:

“Greed is one of the Three Poisons that lead to evil (akusala) and that bind us to suffering (dukkha). It also is one of the Five Hindrances to enlightenment.”

Is it not ironic that such a testament to greed and ego was named after a man whose teachings are an exact opposite. But what can we expect from a woman who has a private road to office, has seven cooks, two tasters, shoes flown in on private planes and an obscene amount of wealth. We have a park costing hundreds of crores opened in the name of dalit pride and a car racing circuit in the name of divine man of peace and extreme enlightenment. One could choke on this kind of irony.

While something of this sort is expected from our politicians, what does it say about the people who paid Rs 2500 to watch cars burn fossil fuel at an extremely high rate. If the foreigners can see the dichotomy of having an F1 circuit and poverty outside why can we not see it? Have we become numb to it? Have we accepted it as part of our lives and national landscape? Because if we have then the solution to this problem will elude us and it will continue to grow until it engulfs us all.

"This is polo for the new generation," says Ashis Nandy, an academic and social commentator, describing the millions being spent on the Grand Prix race as an "utter waste" and "totally insensitive" - with the majority of Indians living on less than a dollar a day."Why does the international media keep focusing on the poor part of India," complains Formula 1 team owner Vijay Mallya.

We Are Falling For Old Pakistani Tricks

An Indian chopper strays into Pakistan and they return it along with the senior officials in it without much problems. Pakistan opens up a temple in Peshawar. Pakistan allows their Hindus to celebrate Diwali. Hints were dropped about Pakistan granting India the “most favored nation” treatment (as if our economy depends upon the paki trade!). News like this is catnip to the liberal pseudo secular crowd in India. They along with the south block have already started to chill the champagne. Have these idiots ever thought of why all this is happening? Why are these people who would rather see us roasted alive in a closed train compartment, started to have a change of heart? I will tell you why?

This is because the US is putting extraordinary pressure on Pakistan from the western borders with incessant drone attacks, forces build up and diplomatic. Pakistanis are incapable of dealing with pressure from two sides that is why they have decided to keep the Indians at bay by being nice to them. The wily pakis know that the Indian pseudo secular lobby always falls for their pseudo overtures like Pavlovian dogs. The pakis are going to say all the right things and ensure that we are not attacked by their terrorists while they are dealing with the Americans. Of course after that pressure has been dealt with (US forces out of Afghanistan), they will resume bleeding us. We are falling for such obvious tricks for the umpteenth time. Shame on us!!
In fact now is the time to bring some more pressure on the pakis and then negotiate (if at all). But that is a move which requires guts and foresight, somethings our leaders lack sorely. That compounded with votebank politics and an inexplicable love for the pakis, leads us to make disastrous foreign policy decisions. When it comes to pakis, we hope that the problems will go away on their own, somehow the paki army and terrorists will abandon hate for India and we will then descend on a Bollywood movie set and sing “Kumbaya” or “Chammak Challo”. Yes all our foreign policy towards pakis is based on hope and nothing else. At least with China we have a Look East policy even though for the most part we take the cowards way out by sweeping the Chinese transgressions under our collective “khatiyas”.

There is something in MEA that makes the whole establishment subtly and sometimes overtly anti US as the heritage of NAM and Nehruvian influence of socialist utopia. the real evil lies with the congress party that has of late sees in the Muslim vote bank the key issue of survival. in addition , i have NEVER figured out what is India's foreign policy - we are not friends even with our tiny SAARC neighbours with the Chinese controlling them.... ! sometimes I wonder if it is in our Hindu genes - we never go beyond the four V's - vichar , vimarshan , vishlayshan and vimochan !! our entire pak policy is reactive - with Pakistan always setting the agenda including the latest report of condi rice in which it was the pakis who set the agenda by putting the scare and the rumor of India attacking ! just imagine the entire NATO and the US buying into the Paki fear of encirclement by India and Afghanistan !
Frankly speaking I cannot believe that the Paks have again got away following Mullen outburst ! as my pak friend says , you Hindus are nice guys , you always let us get away even though you catch us pants down just as in Kargil and in 1971 -- we then feared that India would capture certain portion in the west and would vacate if we gave up claims on POK !!
And the BJP is another myopic party that does not know how to capitalize for fear of being called a radical party and losing out on the Muslim votes not realizing that they get nothing anyway! By pretending and presenting as modestly moderate , they lose even those votes that would go to them if they showed some strongly calibrated aggression - but there is no spine - how can there be if it is still letting the 80 plus year man to do their Ratha Yatra !

Clearly and overhaul of our policies is needed. That will not happen on the watch of such Paki-philes as Manmohan Singh.

UPA, Team Anna and Other Sad Spectacles

1. Team Anna’s self-righteous; “holier than thou” attitude is going to destroy the work of Anna and all of us who stood by him this summer. They set out to attack the wicked with skeletons in their own closets. Agnivesh turned out to be a Congress pimp. Bhushan turned out to be a traitorous leftist. If that was not bad enough, we have Kejriwal in IT dragnet and Kiran Bedi in the expenditure padding cases. Bhushan and Agnivesh are bad seeds. The case against Kejriwal stinks. If the man was greedy for money, there were other ways to make it. He has a B Tech from IIT Kharagpur. He could have joined the IAS / IPS / IFS or any of the provincial services and made crores. The accusations against him reek of Digvijay Singh and Co. But Kiran Bedi has really sullied her name and for what? The path of the self-righteous is fraught with perils. When all you have is truth on your side in a war against the evil then you better have your closet clean and your integrity intact. Between petty greed, leftist agendas and Congress dirty tricks, Anna Hazare’s sacrifices are bound to fail. It sure is a sorry spectacle.

2. For someone who is denying being a candidate, Advaniji is not fooling anyone. He is hoping against hope that somehow the UPA government will fall this year or near enough which will then give him the chance to crawl up to the top seat. This is a sad picture and is not gaining any traction anywhere. His selfish desires are going to ruin the BJPs chances in the next elections. Instead of playing advisor to capable men like Narendra Modi, he has decided to usurp the top job himself. Sad spectacle indeed.

3. Is there a sadder spectacle than the man currently in the PM’s seat? What about Congress and Co. in recent by-elections? What about the Rajkumar? I thought that Rajmata’s return was the panacea for all of Congress’ ills. All the lower level Congress supporters and their voters really do cut a sorry and sad picture.

NGOs Can Make A Difference In India!!

You have got NGOs and then you have got NGOs. And then you have one that is run by a guy who seems to really want to make a difference. No socialites or leftists agendas or padded bills etc. Seems like an NGO called “Sarhad” run by Sanjay Nahar who brings children from troubled parts of India to the safe havens in Maharashtra (thankfully Raj Thakray has kept his trap shut about this), houses them and gets them enrolled in local schools. He did that for children in Punjab back in the day. Now he has turned his focus on a state that has been screwed royally by Pakistani terrorists, local criminal demagogues and Congress led inept leaders i.e. J&K. Now from the footage of the youth we get to see are the stone pelting desi intifada guys. I was glad to hear that all this does not influence a whole lot of Muslim children from the state. In fact the ones in question are normal kids with normal worries and interests like careers, safety, Amitabh Bachchan, politics even joining the Indian defence forces. Yes. A girl wants to join the IAF while the terrorist leaders would have you believe that all the Indian Defence personnel do there is kill and rape. A lot of these kids want to stay back in Maharashtra and become professionals. It really is heart warming. I tip my hat to Sanjay Nahar. I will find a way to contribute to this guys NGO.

However, what he is doing should have been the Government of India policy. Using the NGOs or social welfare departments, they should have been identifying children who want better things from life than joining the terrorists under some pipe dream of unifying with a failed terrorist outfit called Pakistan. After doing that, these children should have been brought over to other parts of the country, then housed and educated. These kids should be allowed to see the real India. Not the India they get to hear from their paki paid leaders. I am not talking about population dilution like the Chinese have done in their minority areas. I am talking about genuinely winning the hearts and minds of J&K Muslims (Yes. Even forgetting all the atrocity they have inflicted on hapless Hindus). That is the only way to win this war.

How ill we pay for all this? You see, the amount of taxpayer money spent in J&K is (proportionately) far more than most other states. Some of that money could be held back for educating J&K youth provided they come and study in any of the other states. Some of these kids have liked their new surroundings so much that they do not want to go back.
With information and exposure, we need these kids to realize that their real future is with India not with the failed terrorist state of Pakistan, a country which is having trouble retaining their own talented people.

Mayawati, Rahul and UP Ka Bhagya

It is hard to remember when UP had decent governance. I guess the downfall began after VP Singh became the UP CM back in 1980. After that there was a brief period where Kalyan Singh provided some semblance of governance. Since then BJP has had a couple of chances but those terms were disasters with the Kalyan Singh and Rajnath Singh failing to consolidate and build on their wins. Since 1980, most of the rule has been shared by Mulayam Singh and Mayawati. In that, UP has been as bad as Bihar and Bengal (those two states especially Bihar have since redeemed themselves). However, just like a woman suffering from an Abused Spouse Syndrome”, the UP voters keep electing one or the other. Fortunately for the voters, SP is now in tatters. That leaves Mayawati on top of this rotten heap of politicians jockeying for a slice of the UP pie.

Why is UP politics dirtier than other places? It is because UP is the biggest prize in Loksabha elections with more than 80 MP’s. No trick is dirty or sleazy enough to win this prize. In other states it often comes down to powerful communities but in UP it is pared down to the barest and ugliest form politics i.e. caste politics. Votebank politics is practiced in its lowest forms. Thanks to Mulayam Yadav and Samajwadi Party, some towns in western UP may as well be practicing the Sharia. Sleazy Muslim businessmen / crimelords (they either have slaughterhouses, selling meat to the middle east or tanneries turning the UP rivers and bodies of waters into a toxic brew. With large amounts of money, they have ensured status quo by any and all means. Politicians and their relatives are behaving like bad Bollywood movie villains.

Having lived in both UP and Gujarat, I know that the population in both the states is equally smart (Raj Thakrey can go and suck an egg). However, people of Gujarat did one thing right. They elected Narendra Modi. People of UP have been on a slippery slope, electing exact opposites of Narendra Modi. You go to Gujarat, You will see greenery, prosperity, hope but no pictures of Narendra Modi. You go to UP you will see desperation, poverty, crime and pictures of Mayawati everywhere. She is an egomaniac of the highest order who has food tasters, shoes flown in on private planes, private roads, immense amount of illegal wealth and reminders of her power and hold over UP’s fortunes everywhere. Only in the rule of someone like her can there be parks worth hundreds of crore rupees and paltry sums being doled out to fight disease epidemics. That park which is supposed to be a monument to dalit power is actually a thinly veiled monument to Kanshiram and Mayawati. I am sure that the dalits of UP would rather have those crores spent on economic opportunities or better infrastructure or hunger alleviation or anything that will have an impact on their quality of life. I fail to see how can you console a family saying “you may not have any hope or job or food or clothes or a place to live but you have a park celebrating the accomplishments of your fellow dalits. It would be ridiculous if it were not so cruel.

So why do we still have her around? Mayawati has mastered the art of social engineering. She has Dalits, Muslims and Brahmins. A curious collection indeed but she has them all fooled. Her group of MLAs is nothing short of who’s who of UP crime. All this is due to our own faults. Everywhere in India, I went, people would ask me my name. When I only told them my first name (which is clearly a Hindu name), they would insist on my last name. They are trying to figure out my caste or my home state. This is why Mayawati continues to rule UP. It is as if being Hindu is not enough.

Now Congress which has been wiped out from UP is trying to get back in and reclaim what used to be their votebank i.e. Dalits, Muslims and Brahmins. Rahul took padyatras, ate at farmer’s houses made claims about police atrocities in Bhatta Rasul and other stuff. When none of them worked, his handlers came up with another idea. Image makeover. This story is so ridiculous that it could only happen in India.

Accompanied by UP Congress President Rita Bahuguna Joshi and Union Minister of state for Rural Development Pradeep Jain , who himself hails from Bundelkhand, Rahul was passing through Mohda block of Hamirpur district when he intercepted a tractor-trolly loaded with DAP fertiliser. "No sooner the trio confronted the driver with certain queries, he confessed that the fertilizer was fake," UP congress spokesman Subodh Srivastava told mediapersons. He said, "Finding himself cornered the tractor driver ran away from the scene, abandoning the vehicle with 150 bags of DAP fertiliser, that was handed over to the police.

WOW!! The scion of the Indian raj-gharana happened to be near a truck with fake fertilizer. Where were the body guards / police / Congress workers who were protecting the Rajkumar? Did they just let him accost the miscreant on his own. Did the Rajkumar smell the fake fertilizer? Does he have a portable gas-chromatograph or better yet, X-Ray vision? Yes. UP Congress bigwigs would have you believe that our Rajkumar is actually a crime fighter (like Batman or Spiderman) disguised as a powerful politician. Please read the article and see if you can read it with a straight face.

What can be done to stop the criminal and ridiculous activities to win in UP? Instead of dividing Andhra Pradesh and creating a Muslim dominated Telangana, they should divide UP so that we get two states with about 40 MPs each and thus will be lesser prizes. Thanks to disastrous SP and BSP politics, western UP’s culture has become entirely different from eastern UP anyway. So may as well split it. There won’t be any fight over Lucknow as there will be over Hyderabad.

LK Advani: Bheeshma Pitamah or Arjun?

The always on the money and connected NV Subramanian in his latest analyses the by-poll debacle of the Congress. He lays the complete blame on the top tier leadership of Congress i.e. Sonia Gandhi. That her only qualification is marrying the right guy is only obvious to non Congress voters and workers. Expecting her to lead a country as complex as ours is asking for the moon. There are many interesting points made in the article. One is that Congress is that internal party reports about forthcoming elections in UP are gloomy. Another one is that Digvijay Singh has already started to distance himself from the Gandhi family (he has denied being close to Rahul). But we all know this man is a rat and a political survivor. However the most important thing in the article which really caught my eye is the following statement:

The BJP showed the way of coming to power by forging a coalition. The Congress mimicked it and clawed its way back to government. As such, there was no innovation on the part of the Congress leadership to win power. Top ranking ministers like Pranab Mukherjee considered the 2004 victory a fluke. The 2009 win was a bigger surprise.

Think about it. 2004 victory as per Mukherjee was a fluke and 2009 was even a bigger surprise. What this really means is that Congress was never really expecting to win either of the two elections. By implication, both of them were for the BJP to lose! Taking a step further we can safely say that people who were in charge of the BJP during those elections are to be blamed for the BJP losses and sadly for India, for the Congress wins. We all know that during those days, the BJP was divided into two camps – Advani camp and Atalji camp. Atalji was on his way out due to age so Advaniji was the crown prince (only in Indian politics and Arab monarchies can seventy plus year old men are can be referred to as crown prince). He and his coterie planned the disastrous India Shining campaign. The BJP lost big time.
In 2009, UPA had shown themselves to be failures on multiple fronts. Advaniji, Sudheendra Kulkarni and others were in charge. Beating Congress should have been easy. Even the Congress were expecting to lose. As seems to have become their habit, the BJP snatched defeat from the jaws for victory. That is two major losses. Advaniji must shoulder the blame for the losses.

Now that UPA is in deeper trouble and early elections are a distinct possibility, Advaniji is smelling the PM kursi again. He has taken a rathyatra at the age of 84. It is nothing but a very transparent attempt at the top job. Let us say there are early elections. Let us look at the possible voters. The BJP is definitely going to get the votes of their faithfuls (or fat fools. It is beginning to feel like that) but that will not be enough to put us over the top. We will need the Hindu middle class who seems to be sitting on the fence. If they did not vote for then septuagenarian Advani why do we expect them to vote for an octogenarian Advani. Those voters may not vote for Congress but they may go an vote for the regional parties which is worse (can you imagine Karunanidhi as a king maker again?). So to attract those independent voters we have to have proven and younger leadership. Someone who can attract the older middle class voters who are worried about the country. Someone who can attract the younger voters who are worried about their future. Advaniji does not fit the bill.

In a conversation with a friend who is an educated liberal I found out that he would vote for Narendra Modi because he is very impressed with Modi’s way of doing business and the continued success of Gujarat. This friend is by no means beholden to Hindu nationalism and yet for the first time he would consider voting for Modi. Will he vote for Advani? That is the crore rupee question.

As I have said on this blog, the BJP owes a huge debt of gratitude to Advaniji for putting us on the map with his first rathyatra. But that was then and this is now. His time is past and he needs to understand that fact. Ambition cannot overcome the effects of age. In the last month or so, he has send out mixed signals about his desires. On one hand he hints that he has no interests but he has never stopped his chamchas from making noise about it. He needs to come out and categorically say that he is not a candidate instead of hoping that somehow the title of PM gets attached to his name. That sounds too much like Chaudhary Charan Singh who is one of the most reviled names in Indian politics.

Advaniji has to decide if he wants to become Professor Emeritus or take on the grueling task of day to day decision making. He needs to decide if he wants to accept the vaan-prastha ashram or go back in time. He really needs to decide if he want to be Bheeshma Pitamah or fight the war like Arjun. He has to decide all this for the party and the country. We cannot afford another Congress or some sort of a third party rule in the nation (how does Prime Minister Mayawati sound?).

Digvijay Divides Team Anna

When Arvind Kejriwal was in Hissar campaigning against the Congress asking the voters not to vote for Congress and Prashant Bhushan was making statements supporting plebiscite in J&K Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh's saw an opportunity. In Hissar, It was a double jeopardy situation. Not only was team Anna inflicting severe damage to Congress image for opposing the Lokpal bill but their campaign against Congress was unwillingly supporting the BJP candidate. However, that leftist idiot Prashant Bhushan gave him the perfect weapon in the hands of Digvijay Singh to cause a rift in Team Anna. Not the one to take this assault on Congress lying down, Digvijay Singh did the following to split the Team Anna.

a) He was openly opining in the media that Anna Hazare is being misled by Prashant Bhushan and Arvind Kejriwal. This caused Anna to backtrack because he did not want to politicize his anti corruption campaign.

b) He wrote open letters to Anna Hazare to that effect lodging his protest and brought it to the public through releasing it to the media.

c) He then came with the open allegation in the media that RSS is supporting Anna's movement and he has proof of that.

d) He released the letters to the media that were written by RSS chiefs to Anna supporting his movement and proved his criticism while the team Anna continued to vigorously oppose it. Singh is aware of the revulsion that the leftists in team Anna have for all things RSS and BJP. Myopic team Anna instead of accepting the all encompassing support for this movement (i.e. the anti corruption movement belongs to all Indians, liberal and conservative alike) went on the defensive. They ended up repudiating the RSS support. This of course upset a significant population who thinks that just because RSS says the sky is blue does not change the color of the sky. Corruption hurts Indians from all walks of life and everyone has equal right to criticize it even joining hands with their ideological enemies against it. Team Anna failed to recognize it thereby playing into the hands of the wily Congressman.

If that were not enough, Bhushan gave him more fodder to divide the Team Anna. However a few noteworthy things indicate a more sinister plot. No sooner did the attack on Bhushan take place than Digvijay Singh had letters from written by the attackers to members of the BJP. He also was in possession of proof of the membership of the attackers in the BJP youth wing. How did Digvijay get his paws on these incriminating documents. Did Digvijay know about the attack? I don’t want to sound like a conspiracy theory nut but is it possible that he arranged this attack? After all, the BJP / RSS combine is facing major elections in the next two years. By attacking leftists like Bhushan, they stand to lose the most. On the other hand, in spirit of “Cui Bono?” i.e. “Who Benefits?” it is Congress which benefits the most from this attack.

Now it may be a bloody coincidence that Singh got those documents so quickly. A BJP insider may have helped him for money. However, know Digvijay Singh, I would not put anything past him.
Nevertheless, selfish leftist agenda and loss of focus of Team Anna is threatening to undo Anna Hazare’s sacrifice. If Kejriwal thinks that he can deal with snakes in politics they he is a fool who is bringing a knife to a gunfight. The way to deal with the UPA is what Anna did – Satyagrah and public opinion. Instead his team after winning the first battle, decided to unleash their own selfish agenda. Now they are going to lose the war. For this I congratulate Digvijay Singh. He truly is the master of filthy politics.

Team Anna could have avoided all this only if they had stayed focused on the anti-corruption movement and boldly/openly agreed to RSS/BJP support. Anna should have then challenged all those groups/parties/organizations religious or not, to support his movement as corruption transcends color, creed, caste, religion, faith etc, etc.....

Unfortunate But True Colors Of Team Anna

An expert on the subject, Mr. G Parthasarthy says the following: “Pretentious intellectuals and bleeding heart liberals in India continue to push the ridiculous idea that talks can reduce the ISI’s animosity towards this country”. Here is what we, the Hindu nationalists know. We understand the nature of hatred because we live in the real world. We understand the extent of the hatred that the Pakistanis have for us. We understand that they want to balkanize India. We understand that the Pakistani army is nothing more than a group of terrorists wearing the uniform. We understand that the current leadership in J&K are nothing more than Pakistani stooges. We understand that the intifada style stone throwing youngsters did that for money paid by the Pakis. We understand how the J&K Hindus have been reduced to live like refugees in their own country and how their belongings were usurped by the Muslims. We understand that to quell the violence in J&K, many innocent Muslims have been gravely harmed. We understand how important J&K is to our national security and that loss of that state will make us vulnerable to Pakistan and China who would like nothing less that total destruction of the nation. We understand the importance of winning the hearts and minds of residents of that state but we also understand that the price has to be right.

Unfortunately, the knee jerk liberals live in a dream world which is akin to the paradise described in Bible and Quran. They would do anything to impose their vision of India down the throats of the rest of us. To achieve that they will resort to any trick. We have seen the cheap and criminal tactics used by them to bring down a democratically elected government in Gujarat. The latest trick they are using is to use a selfless patriot like Anna Hazare, his new found support and his demand for the Lokpal bill as a weapon. We always suspected that Team Anna is nothing more than a bunch of leftists who are using the anti corruption movement for their own end. We have written many time on that subject on this blog. The latest brazen attempt is by this delusional leftist Prashant Bhushan who said the following in an exchange with a CNN-IBN scribe:

Rajdeep Sardesai: Okay, hold on Prashant Bhushan let me tell you the exact statement that you made that has led to all this apparently. You said in Varanasi, “my belief is that we should try to normalise the situation in Kashmir, remove the army, get rid of AFSPA and should try and win the hearts and minds of the Kashmiri people.” So far, so good. Then you go on to say, “If even then they continue to say they want to be separated, then we should allow a plebiscite and if that comes out and they still want to separate, then we should allow them to separate.” On a sensitive issue like Jammu and Kashmir, do you have any regrets about making this statement?

Prashant Bhushan: You see, I had made it very clear that I am giving my personal views and these are not the views of Anna or Team Anna. But this Kashmir issue is an issue which needs to be settled and which needs to be amicably settled, politically settled soon. If it is allowed to fester, it is leading to enormous alienation among the people of Kashmir, which will have all kinds of frightful consequences in the future.

This plebiscite suggesting traitor says that this is his view and not that of Team Anna. My question to this man is that if you were not on Team Anna, who would listen to you? This insignificant guy who belongs in the leftist trash bin, is using the popularity of Anna Hazare to push his own agenda. This man is hijacking the anti corruption movement which belongs to all of us and is now using that to further his own anti-national agenda. You see, people want Anna Hazare to fight corruption. That is what is expected from his team. That is why we supported them. Team Anna speaks for Anna Hazare. If they speak their own mind then they should be fired from that team like that pimp Agnivesh. Prashant Bhushan is NOTHING without Anna Hazare. So I what want to tell Bhushan is – SHUT UP OR GET OUT!

But this has happened and will not change. These leftists are an arrogant breed and will not listen to reason. This raises two scary scenarios. One is that if and when the Lokpal bill gets passed, people like Bhushan and Kejriwal are going to become very powerful, answerable to none. They WILL use it as a weapon to further their own agenda. We all know who the targets are going to be. Second is that when people realise that they have been had by these leftists, the anti corruption movement will get divided between their liberal and conservative supporters. The winner will then be the corrupt politicians. Already the inflammatory statement made by Bhushan has incited violence where he was the victim and is now trying to portray him as a victim of some sort of fascism. Now I want to support Anna Hazare’s anti corruption movement but I cannot let his team go around making anti-national statements. For that I am going to hold Anna Hazare responsible because he is the leader. Now you can see how the anti corruption movement will get diluted because of idiots like Bhushan.

I am afraid that in the end the aam aadmi will be the loser. Corrupt politicians will win. Leftists would have enjoyed their fifteen minutes and we will be left with the status quo.

An Appeal To the RSS and Advaniji

From the looks of it, the BJP is setting themselves for another loss in 2014 despite of the best efforts of Congress to surrender the power. Snatching defeats from the jaws of victory seems to have become a habit. Many things have happened in the recent past which tell us that not all is well in BJP.
Narendra Modi, who is widely acknowledged as a the most effective leader in the nation. He essentially went against the party and did his upvas and effectively announced his desire for the top post. Why would the most accomplished BJP leader would do that? It is clear that he found out that despite all his accomplishments, the decision makers were going to hang him out to dry. I am certain that it has got nothing to do with the Muslim votes because they are not going to vote for the BJP NO MATTER WHAT! So it must be his personality.

Now when it comes to making major decisions in the BJP, RSS has a big say. Ideological and personnel overlap are the primary reasons. RSS is one of the most admirable organizations in the nation. They are dedicated patriots and true sons and daughters of the motherland. But they are an ideology driven organization. If they want to treat the BJP as their political arm then so be it. However, the RSS bigwigs need to understand that ideology and politics are two different beasts. They need to provide moral and personnel support to the BJP but they need to let the BJP cadre decide the leadership issues. They should not and cannot (intra-party democracy is a BJP forte unlike the Congress where The Family rules) anoint leaders based on servile attitudes of leaders. Nitin Gadkari maybe a tremendous behind the scenes leader but cuts a sorry picture as a national leader. He may have gotten the Bariatric Surgery to reduce weight but his existing weight indicates an undisciplined man. He also has a propensity to shoot his mouth off which is a major liability for a national leader. So why are there reports that he is being propped up by the RSS bigwigs for PM post? Why are ineffective leaders like Sanjay Joshi who are Modi haters being given prominence and made in charge of UP elections especially when Joshi has no idea of the cesspool that is UP. Is it because unlike Modi he dances to the tunes of the RSS leaders? Is the RSS trying to punish Modi because he has committed what the Mughals used to refer to as “ Na-farma-bardaari”? Modi himself is an ex RSS worker but he is his own person and a very strong personality. It may be a weakness but it has not stopped the juggernaut called Gujarat. Slowly but surely, people in India are beginning to accept that despite all the baggage (most of it is the liberal NGO / media created), Modi is the best option we have to run the country. But because he does not accept the RSS diktats, he is being sidelined.

Modi is a political survivor and a tremendous achiever. Despite of the best attempts of Congress, liberals and the entire media he has won elections after elections. This shows that the man knows politics. However, how many victories can the RSS chalk up in their column. They have been around much longer than most of us. Despite of all their greatness, it wasn’t until a proficient politician like Atalji took over the reins. After him the RSS / BJP combine ruined every chance that the BJP had to return to power at national and state levels. That the BJP has been wiped out from UP is something that falls squarely on the shoulders of the existing decisions makers of the BJP / RSS combine. They have repeatedly bungled up most of the state elections in the last twenty years. Even today, the shining star in the BJP kitty is the one ruled by Modi. I dare say that it is because of any RSS decision. My humble appeal to the RSS leaders is that please accept your limitations. You are all people whom we should aspire to be. But you are not perfect. You do not have the political gumption. Leave it to the democratic machinations of the party. Let there be fair elections within the party for leaders. If Gadkari wins such an elections then we all will mobilize behind him. However, if Bhai Narendra Modi wins, you have to promise that you will stand behind him and help him win the election. You have to do it for the nation. Modi is not bigger than BJP/RSS but the BJP/RSS are not bigger than the nation. The nation cannot deal with more UPA rule.

My appeal to Advaniji is that you had your chance. If you are undertaking this yatra to improve the party presence in UP and Bihar that Bholenath may bless you. If you are doing it for any desire you may still nurse to become the leader, you must understand. As a Hindu you have come to the vaan-prastha ashram stage. This hunger for power does not behoove a true Hindu like you. Curb your ambition and let other shining stars have their moment. The nation cannot afford another debacle like 2009.

Stand Up To The Chinese

A report came out which has extensively quoted a “source” in the government. This means the South Block i.e. MEA. These guys are responsible for our foreign policy. The gist of it is that media and people who speak against Chinese misbehaviors are doing a great disservice to India and hampering Indo-China relations. This source wants us to calm down so as to not disturb the delicate Chinese constitution. Yes. China which is a godless nation only answerable to oneself or the party. China where the government killed thousands of students in one day (in case you have forgotten- Tiananmen square). God forbid their feelings should get hurt in anyway. Boo Hoo!!

Of course the world of diplomacy demands finesse and a tiny bit of what this “source” is saying is true. Demonization of the Chinese makes it difficult to sit across from them and talk business. However I think that this source, what the hell, let’s just say GoI are trying to suppress Chinese mischief from getting out in the public. That way they do not have to react to the Chinese crimes. The alternative is an ugly one – taking a decision. This is akin to hiding all the garbage in a closet to keep the house clean. It is wrong.

The Indian people need to know every one of the Chinese misadventures. The Chinese should know that we know. They should also know that we can do something about it. Otherwise there can never be a discussion fair to India. Chinese are bullies – plain and simple. Their entire foreign policy in towards South Asia is one of keeping India mired in Pakistan created problems. Pakistan is the mad dog the Chinese use to keep India in a corner. Pakistanis are too stupid to see that. They are not intellectually stupid but their visceral hatred for Indians makes them that way. Nevertheless, it is the aam aadmi who has to pay for all that. The Chinese have kept the Pakistanis propped up only to keep India down.

The sixty billion dollar Indo-Chinese trade that the GoI harps on, is useless from our point of view. They sell us manufactured goods (thereby destroying our nascent manufacturing sector) and buy raw materials from us ( a lot of it illegally thanks to criminals in Karnataka, Goa and elsewhere). Is this the kind of trade India needs? The GoI is lying to the entire country about the importance of Indo-China trade. We have brought the Chinese into our telecom sector where they can do real damage (the PLA has a cyber warfare division which actively hunts weak spots of their enemies). Yes, we can and should do without this kind of trade. We just have to provide infrastructure to our own manufacturing sector.

So here are some of the things that the Chinese have done or are doing that the GoI does not want us to even think about:

1. Unfair trade which will ruin our manufacturing sector.

2. Propping up the Pakistanis as a foil to undermine India’s growth. Pakistan has nuclear weapons and delivary systems thanks to the Chinese help. That itself should be reason enough to speak against the Chinese.

3. Hurting our interests in SE Asia. GoI denials about the INS Airavat issue ring hollow. China bullies everyone in the South China seas. That is not friendly behavior.

4. Constant needling us over VISA issues for people from J&K and Arunachal Pradesh.

5. Enabling anti India sections of the government of Bangladesh. The string of pearls to surround India is not a figment of the Indian imagination.

6. Damning of Bramhaputra, construction India specific infrastructure in the border areas, arming the Nepal government / Maoists.

7. Selling spurious drugs in Africa with “Made in India” labels on them.

8. Constantly work against Indian interests in the UNSC (completely ignoring the fact that if it was not for Nehru’s myopia they would not be even in the UNSC) including those of Pakistani terror outfits.

9. Repeated incursions into the Indian territories.

I am sure that I am forgetting a whole bunch or crimes. We are not even going to talk about stuff that happened in the past. The “source” says the following:

The sources explained that China is "the most important and most sensitive relation" for India. While accepting the fact that there are divergences between both countries, the sources added, "It does not serve any purpose to gloss over positives between India and China." After all, China is the second largest economy in world and in less than a decade it will be $ 6 trillion economy. "China's rise is the reality" said sources, before advising the media that, "It does not help our interests to have an antagonistic attitude."

Well, China is still not as big as the USA and we have always spoken against them. We have voted constantly against the US in UN. The Congress has always blamed the CIA for all kinds of Indian problems. So the size of economy is a non issue. As far as proximity is concerned, the US has a naval base in the southern part of Indian Ocean (Diego Garcia). So it is something else.

As I said before, the world of diplomacy sometimes demands finesse and even taking a step back. However sometimes you have to force an issue as well. Vietnamese have constantly repelled Chinese bullying. Why should not we? If anything else, it may show the Pakistanis the futility of their ways.

Rahul, Sonia and a Desperate Congress

There are two reports on the mess created during Sonia Gandhi’s absence. One of them shows the failure of the four person committee to control the fight between Chidambaran and Pranab Mukherjee. The head of said committee was the future PM of India Rahul Gandhi. This report implies that Rahul Gandhi failed and cried Mommy who came rushing back to bail out her son. Very non-complimentary articles. You would think that such an article was published in an RSS magazine or Daily Pioneer. You would be wrong. It was in India Today which is a veritable mouthpiece of the Congress. It must really be getting bad because even the faithful (or shall I say fat fools) are turning on their masters.

That Rahul Gandhi has failed once again comes as no surprise to anyone with half a sense. However, the dependence of the Congress on the Gandhi family has reached become a malignant disease. It is pathetic. I will try to explain what I mean by that.

In a typical Indian family, fathers think they are the most powerful person but it is the mother who wields all the power. He only depends on her for advice. If the son in the family or anyone else tells him the color of the sky is blue, he will not believe it until the mother tells him that. People of a certain age and stature only believe or get their differences adjudicated by someone they respect / take seriously, either out of choice or by force. That is the premise of my argument.

Indian political parties are like families where the elders do not cede power until they are dead or handicapped. For someone young to come to power means that he will have to show strength and charisma backed by even more strength and threat. It is obvious that the elders in the Congress have scant respect for Rahul Gandhi. That is the only reason for the mess created in Sonia’s absence. She had to come back to solve the problem. It seems that she has solved the problem (at least from the Congress point of view). Does that speak of her abilities as a diplomat and a politician? Hardly. We all know her qualifications. The rudderless Congress of the late 1990s decided to make her the Goddess whom everyone in the party will worship without questioning. That action followed by a dictatorial coterie of chamchas has ensured the concentration of power. What is amazing is that the four man committee had three of the biggest chamchas from the Sonia Gandhi circle – Ahmad Patel, Janardhan Dwivedi and AK Antony. Even with her blessing, this gang of four could not handle the feuding elders in Congress. She was needed in person to solve this.

Does this look like a good system to you? The entire party is only functioning (if we can call the current government functioning) because of a perceived threat from a woman who nothing more than an anointed “goddess” by a desperate party. Hardly a picture of stability, the kind which India needs badly. Presence of Rahul and Sonia at the top of Congress tells me that this party has no internal democracy / system, ideological strength, character and unity. Even the despicable Communists in India are better that these guys. Congress is a house of cards. I hope the Indian voters are watching all this. Our country’s future is at stake here.

Don’t Ignore the Indian Black Money Abroad!

Normally Mr. TVR Shenoy writes tremendous pieces. But his latest seems to be in the “sky is blue” category. Very obvious. Congress has thrown all non Congress UPA allies under the bus when they were found to embroiled in a scam (too many to be specific). However when it comes to their own people, they become defensive and dig their heels even in the face of most damning evidences (letter from the Finance Ministry in the 2G scam). Mr. Contends that Chidambaran is being defended to protect Manmohan Singh. This of course assumes that the decision making responsibility for something (2G project) involving so much money lies with him. That is a fallacy. The last domino is not Manmohan Singh. It is the Congress president because she is the one with all the power. It is there that the buck should stop. Pawns gets sacrificed to protect the important pieces. Raja and Kanimozhi were just that. More important pieces get sacrificed to protect the King and the queen. We all know who is whom in this Shakespearean tragedy.

All the talks of scams is diverting attention from the 800 lb gorilla in the room i.e. the trillion dollar black money in foreign banks. In fact some conspiracy theory aficionado suggested that Anna Hazare was helping the Congress in taking out Baba Ramdev from the protests because he was primarily protesting against the black money abroad. Farfetched as it may be, but the underlying fact cannot be denied which is that no one wants to deal with it. They are finding one way or the other to ignore / avoid it even though those safe haven countries have offered their help in the matter. Even the BJP during their tenure did precious little to get our money back (Yes. It is our i.e. taxpayers money!). Prof. Vaidyanathan of IIM Bangluru has been vociferous on the topic. He has written often and well on the subject. Some point he raises are pretty alarming. If the tax haven countries know about the names of the account holders then foreign secret services can also find it out (How difficult it really is for some outfit like the CIA?). That would make any number of politicians and businessmen susceptible to blackmail. Decisions made by such people could prove to be disastrous for our nation.

In his excellent article on the matter he raises four points about why the black money abroad is bad for our security.

Every two-bit expert on the Indian stock markets knows that our markets are moved by external flows – both inflows and outflows. Such flows may be the ill-gotten wealth of Indians kept abroad in tax havens or domestic funds sent out and brought back to facilitate these activities.

In other words, the destabilisation of our stock markets can be done using the black money in tax havens. The movement of the Sensex may not be related to the performance of our economy but to the actions of these black money holders.

The second concern is: are we adequately sterilised in terms of know your customer (KYC)? This is in the context of the concern expressed by our former National Security Advisor (MK Narayanan) regarding the possibility of terror funds coming through the financial markets.

Third, there is a question-mark about our ability to formulate policies without being blackmailed by foreign governments. For instance, many may not know that De La Rue Giori – the owner of more than 90 percent of the world’s currency printing business in Switzerland – was one of the passengers in the Indian Airlines plane hijacked to Kandahar. (Time magazine, 17 January 2000). It is easy to imagine the type of pressure that could have been applied by the Swiss on our government at the time of the hijack.

The fourth issue is about getting arm-twisted in our economic and foreign policy formulations. It is pertinent to note that if the CIA knows about our leaders holding black money in tax havens, then there is a strong possibility that the ISI can also have that data. This is the danger faced by our republic. Our national policies may not be formulated in Delhi, but in Washington or Islamabad – if they have the data and can use it to pressure our leaders.

His third point illustrates how the government’s decision making gets affected by this knowledge. If a party with some semblance of integrity can do what they did under pressure, one can only imagine what a corrupt government like the UPA would do. The implications are far too serious to be ignored. Anna Hazare, Baba Ramdev and all those people in whom the aam aadmi has placed his trust need to set aside their differences and egos and strive to solve one of the greatest dangers facing the nation. The Indian press and all the left wing intelligentsia should focus on this topic rather than chasing ghosts in Gujarat.

BJP: Time For Leadership Overhaul

A misguided “India Shining” campaign killed the reelection of Atalji’s government. The elections were preponed against the wishes of a politically astute man and then run in a very haphazard fashion which made the BJP look out of touch with the ground reality and doomed the country with the UPA rule. Five years of punishment should have been enough. It seemed that the country hit by price rise, corruption and terrorism was set for a change. Yet another campaign by the BJP with an octogenarian like Advani ji seen lifting dumb bells to the tune of “Abhi toh mai jawan hoon” . People like Sudheendra Kulkarni were responsible for that. The man is in jail today for a different crime though. BJP snatched defeat from the jaws of a very likely victory. India was punished severely for BJP’s mistake with five more years of the UPA.
Since then we have seen the BJP take some steps towards becoming a true national alternative. Although the BJP leadership mantle has been in flux. It seemed that the fight for the top spot was between two eloquent speakers- Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj. However, other than being good parliamentarians, these two have shown nothing to prove that they have the political acumen to make the BJP into an alternative that people can trust with their votes. Recent moves by Bhai Narendra Modi has made it clear that political correctness aside, the party needs and deserves a leader whom the lower level workers can respect and look up to for true leadership.
Advaniji’s rathyatra in days past put the BJP on the national stage. It essentially set up the stage for future victories. The party owes him a huge debt of gratitude. But that is where it should end. You see, he is a member of the party but not the party itself. He had his shot at the top job and He and Sudheendra Kulkarni blew it. Time has come for him to step aside. If he is undertaking the rath-yatra for the benefit of the party then Baba Bholenath bless him. However if this is another attempt at the “PM Kursi” then I hope he fails again. We need fresh ideas and younger blood. Advani needs to become the Professor Emeritus / Consigliore.

Now within the BJP itself, there seems to be a leadership issue. Until a few days ago when Bhai Narendra essentially announced his interest in the top job, there were two leadership candidates. Arun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj. Now Sushmaji has proved her mettle as a politician but Jaitley is yet another Rajyasabha MP who is more capable of winning party elections rather than the general ones. Time and time again, he has failed to make an impact on the state elections. Therefore, the entire top BJP leadership needs to take a stock while putting their own personal ambitions on hold for a while. Sushmaji needs to look at Hillary Clinton who after a while came to terms with the inevitable and joined Obama’s cabinet as a high ranking official. Not every good soldier becomes the General. We have seen the results of the hierarchical system. Advaniji did not need to follow Atalji to the PM’s chair at the cost of the party. This has got to change.

If Modi gives us the best chance to win and good governance afterwards then the others need to shut up and give the man his due. It is because of him and other successful BJP CMs that the party has remained relevant. If it were up to our MPs in Loksabha and party leaders (especially before Nitin Gadkari), we would have become the Samajwadi Party of national politics.

Mr. PM: Speak For India. Not For Ghost Of NAM

The Non Aligned Movement was a bad idea from the start. It almost seems that it was done to shirk away from the responsibility of making hard choices. It is always said that Indian are a proud lot and thus do not want to become a vassal state. This of course assumes that becoming friends with a powerful country would reduce us to that. That has some truth to it. But the world of international politics mirrors the microcosm of life. Not all countries are equal. The powerful ones will get away with more than god intended to (or maybe God did). But then what is a country like India to do? This is where hard questions need to be answered. There are no easy solutions here.

NAM was a group of countries trying to stay independent i.e. not taking sides in the cold war. Noble thought indeed. But were we really non-aligned. As the UN records show that until mid 1980’s we voted against the USA more than 75% of the times. If the USA was on the wrong side of an issue, we needed to oppose them. However, a closer look would tell you that we were actually helping the Russians against the US. KGB records show that during those days almost all our Congress politicians and leftists were on the KGB payroll. So our NAM involvement was in name only. Dictators like Castro and Tito were the stalwarts of the movement. That is how ridiculous it was. And somehow, the ghost of the NAM is still haunting us.

The PM’s latest speech at the UN goes to show you that NAM still finds currency in the south block. The speech writing babu must have been instructed to do so (the guy made a grammatical error in the speech. WOW!). Not only did the speech reek of NAM rhetoric, it almost seem to compound recent mistakes and lay grounds for some new ones. In a well written article, Mr. KC Singh who used to be a diplomat says the following:

The PM then went on to justify through circumlocutory reasoning that Indian abstention on UNSC resolution 1973 on Libya, authorising a 'No-Fly Zone', and permitting all measures to protect civilians was right. Subsequent developments in Libya have shown the Indian judgement to have been flawed both on the basis of realpolitik, as Muammar Gaddafi could not survive, as well as the emerging principle of a global Responsibility to Protect when a massacre of citizens, even by its own government, is imminent.

Now we are once again on the wrong side of history because we were too cowardly to take a tough decision against Gaddafi who was no friends of India and we had no vested interests in the continuance of his brutal regime. The PM went on to support the Palestinian cause of nationhood despite of the fact that the Israelis have been our most reliable suppliers of weaponry. The Israelis are our kindred spirits and they could use our support. The Indian interests lie in helping the Israelis. But we chose to support The Palestinians in the spirit of NAM. I can only hope that this does not hurt the Indo-Israeli defense relations.

The PM then went on to engage Iran’s president Ahmedinejad. Here is what Mr. Singh writes about that:

The most pathetic was PM's interaction with President M Ahmadinejad of Iran. Ignored for six years, the PM's advisers have suddenly found virtue in engaging him when he had just finished embarrassing Iran and offending the US by questioning 9/11 on its tenth anniversary in the very city where it happened. How would India have reacted if a foreign leader had said the same about 26/11 while visiting India and then the US President was photographed hugging him.

This is reminiscent of the picture of Mrs. Gandhi hugging Fidel Castro which was then plastered on all kinds of publications the world over. I don’t think that earned us too many friends in the US or other places. Of course a knee jerk reaction would be “to hell with the US. Why do we need them. They are a bunch of racists who would like nothing more than to make India into a vassal state”. A close look at the friends of USA (Pakistan is no friend of the US) would tell you that it is in our interest to stay on the right side of the US rather than opposing them. That is the nature of the beast. From independence to the day PV Narsimha Rao took over we saw what our non aligned policy got us. Nothing but poverty, misery and defeat on the world stage. Since then, we have engaged the US and the west (and vice versa) and look at the results. Are we more respected today or when we were practicing Nehruvian economics and non aligned policies? The answer may be painful to swallow but it is very clear.

Of course there exists an uglier possibility for the latest snafus at the UN. Was the support for Gaddafi and the Palestinians or engaging Ahmedinejad meant to showcase the Congress’ secular values for their Muslim votebank? There are enough number of instances to support that as well. Now that is not only short sighted but a clear example of putting the party (or in this case that Family) before the nation. After all, Rahul Gandhi’s future Prime-Ministership is at stake.

We need a PM who will put India ahead of votebank politics or a family or his legacy or his party. We need a PM who should be willing to make otherwise unpalatable deals if it benefits the Indian people. We need a PM who would take care of poor Indians before taking up the cause of poor people elsewhere. We need a PM who worries about domestic governance rather than the global kind. We need a PM who will speak for India before speaking on behalf of a failed idea. It is painfully clear from just one speech that Manmohan Singh is not that PM. Not that we needed this speech to surmise that fact.

Congress in a Catch 22 of its Creation

Before getting to the point, I would like to make a segue. Hindu dalits are an abandoned lot. It seems no one is talking about them. Shedding tears for them is not cool enough for the NGO’s and the leftists who would rather be dealing with the religious minorities. Majority Hindus are too caught up in their own mess to pay attention to this group. The self proclaimed messiahs like Mayawati is too busy with her own Eva Peron / Imelda Marcos like lifestyle. The direct result of all this is that they have become a convenient hunting targets for some cruel Muslims. Rape and murder of dalit girls is just one of the ways. On our blog, we had written on this topic. This is truly unfortunate. Of course to expect our government to do something about this is like asking for moon. In fact, the latest insult to the poor of India is the UPA ishtyle poverty fighting. It seems that if you are making more than Rs. 32 a day, you are not poor. Yes by lowering the standard of poverty, our government has taken care of this problem. Have any of these bastards tries to spend a day alone on Rs. 32 let alone taking care of a family? But I digress.

In the latest example of the criminal Muslim mischief is their fight with the Gujjars in Rajasthan. Of course in the interest of political correctness, this was kept under the wraps until the whole thing blew up. No one seems to know why this happened but in a case of Police firing, eight people died and dozens injured. What did the Muslims do to provoke such a response from the Police in a Muslim friendly secular Congress ruled state like Rajasthan? You can only imagine. There are two sides to this episode of course. On one side I would like to ask, where is Congress General Secretary, the maseeha of the minorities Digvijay Singh? He manages to be to be conspicuously absent during such incidents happening in his own party ruled state. He can be seen all over the media when it comes to Modi bashing for the Gujarat riots. The Congress is indeed in a Catch 22 situation in Rajasthan. The party have been running with the hare and hunting with the hounds in Rajasthan when it came to handling the Dalit girl gang-rape and murder case which happened a couple of months back. Such crimes need to be handled decisively, you cannot play vote bank politics and support two opposing causes. The police shielded the criminals and took no cognizance of the atrocity committed by the minority community on the socially downtrodden majority community. While in Bharatpur the congress is trying to give a communal twist to a clash that occurred between the police and the minority community. The congress has to realize that it has to face the consequences of its mistakes and bad deeds. The chickens have come home to roost.

Of course the other side to the issue is that we on this blog realize that things do go out of control. Just like after the Muslims burned alive the kar sevaks at the Godhra station, there were massive retaliatory riots where Muslims and Hindus died. The same way, things probably went out of control in Bharatpur and the police had to do whatever it took to bring the peace. Tragic. But was it avoidable? I don’t know the answer without knowing what led to this firing. Ronald Reagan had Alzheimer’s disease going into his second term. Can you imagine the world’s most powerful man with finger on thousands of nuclear weapons, unable to remember small things? His staff carefully kept this hidden and managed the entire administration. Did they do to protect their own turf or to protect Reagan’s legacy or honor / pride? If we had known about the extent of Jinnah’s TB who knows what would be the shape of the subcontinent? Nehru kept his afflictions secret. Of course all kinds of unpleasant reasons have been ascribed to that. His daughter also suffered from TB and that was kept from the Indian people. These people have a right to privacy. No doubts about that. But they are not private citizens. Their responsibility goes beyond their families. Things they do or decisions they make have bearing on all the lives of the citizens of the country. Yes, it may be their legacy or honor but it is our lives. If our leaders have a sickness or an addiction or a character flaw that may impair their ability to make timely and correct decisions then we have a right to know.

There are many leaders in the world who deal with their afflictions out in the open. New York city mayor Rudy Giuliani and more recently Hugo Chavez of Venezuela dealt with their cancers with their constituents. It did not lead to anarchy or loss of respect for these men. VP of the US, Dick Cheney (not a very loved man) had a heart condition and everyone knew about it. It did not decrease his influence.

Of course in India, everything is a matter of either legacy or “izzat” i.e. honor. People talked about Atalji’s love for booze in hushed tones. Why? If he had a drinking problem then we had a right to know because that may have affected our decision to elect him. On the other hand if he had a drink or so in the evening then who cares! Then we have the secrets of the Gandhi family. Those are better concealed than secrets which are important to our national security. If Nehru was in love with Edwina Mountbatten, then that may have affected his judgment when it came to dealing with the British at that time. If the Indian public had known about it then they may not have re-elected him. These are important pieces of information which have long reaching implications. Think about it. If Nehru were not the PM in early 1960’s we may not have recognized the illegal Chinese rule in Tibet or given up our seat in the UNSC in favor of China. Our lives would be safer right now. Yes, we have the bloody right to know.

Sonia Gandhi is the PM. Do not kid yourself about the man in the seat. She has all the power. She is privy to all our national secrets even though on paper she is just and MP. She talks to the foreign visitors and her opinion shapes their attitudes towards us. Yes, we have a right to know everything about her – her education (because that gives us a window into her intellectual ability), her allegiances to her country of birth (Indian foreign policy could get influenced by that), her associations with foreigners (Ottavio Quattrocci) or her health. If she goes abroad to get treatment for Cancer (doesn’t India have doctors who could take care of her. We have heart surgeons who have done open heart surgeries on infants) then we need to know about it. Her loyalists would have you believe that all was wrong with India because she was not here to guide them. We need to know what kind of cancer because if her influence is so crucial then we need to know how long she is going to live. If they are trying to keep it a secret because it is breast cancer then that is ridiculous. All our families have mothers and aunts who have suffered from this terrible disease. No one is going to snicker at that. However, if her affliction is due to her lifestyle then we have a right to know.

Sonia Gandhi is someone’s mother and daughter. We all wish her full recovery. But her sickness has bearing on all our lives. We did not opt for that. She put herself in that position. It is therefore her responsibility to come clean. If she wants her health to be treated with the privacy then she should become a private citizen. Otherwise, I would like to remind her that it may be her legacy, honor or dignity but for us, it is the matter of our lives and future of our country.

Modi’s Fast: Skullcap, Dunce Cap and Some Thoughts

Bhai Narendra has completed a fast for which he had his own reasons. It could be that he wants to tell the nation where he stands on the Hindu-Muslim issue which to the liberals and pseudo-secular population is a vastly bigger issue than all the malaise facing the nation. Well so be it. He has done his best to address a very painful issue something that the Congress never did in the aftermath of the Sikh massacre in 1984. I have the following thoughts on the matter.

1. We are big fans of the columns by Vivek Gumaste who has raised a very valid point. His point supports my assertion in an earlier blog post that the post Godhra-massacre riots were reactionary and unplanned. What Vivek says is the following and I hope he has provided a definitive answer to all those who like to bandy the word “pogrom”.

Comparison with other notorious riots is essential to expose the willful targeting of Narendra Modi. In the Mumbai riots of 1992 that followed the Babri-Masjid demolition, nearly 900 people died: 575 Muslims and 275 Hindus. In Gujarat 2002 there were 1044 casualties with Muslims accounting for 794 deaths and Hindus 254. The 1984 anti-Sikh riots were by far the worst: 3,000 killed with zero Hindu deaths: it was a pogrom in the truest sense of the word. But yet it is only Modi who is held up as the arch villain.

The media has been infinitely kinder to Sajjan Kumar, Jagdish Tytler and others from Congress and even to Rajiv Gandhi who famously said “when a big tree falls, the earth shakes”. The Indian media and leftist bias could not be more stark. Today they are trying every dirty trick to besmirch a man who happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Unlike the aforementioned Congress persons, he has never done or said anything that could make him sound like what he has been accused of.

2. Some small town maulana is now saying that Modi’s refusal (if it actually was a refusal) to wear a skullcap is an insult to Islam. Wow! The Chutzpah of this man is astounding. I do not see the Muslim politicians wearing anything Hindu. Muslims in India refuse to sing Vande-Mataram or anything which extols the motherland and yet they want everyone else to prove their affection of Islam by wearing a skullcap. Of course the shameless Indian media is splattering this tidbit of information all over. These people who have been wearing the dunce cap provided by Congress for over fifty years are making a big issue of the skull cap.

3. The Bollywood celebrities who have discovered Twitter are now expressing every thought popping in their empty heads. Idiots like Pooja Bedi who are only known for advertisements I cannot watch with my son, have taken it upon themselves to pass their judgment on issues which are beyond their scope of thinking. “Please go back into your shells and talk about stuff that you have a better grasp of like ….. (This is not an adult rated site so I am at a loss)”.

4. Mr. B. Raman who has been a fount of information and a window into the word of terror has made yet another mistake. He wants Narendra Bhai to apologize for the riots. An erudite man like Mr. Raman should know that an apology is tantamount to a confession. If Narendra Bhai is innocent then why apologize? If an apology is a pre-requisite to the PM,s chair then it is the misfortune of the aam aadmi and we do not deserve a man like Modi in PM’s chair.

5. Shankersinh Vaghela is doing his own fast. This “thali ka baingan” does not deserve any attention. This man used to be a longstanding member of the RSS. When he realized that with Modi around, he will never be the CM. He joined the Congress. People who join the RSS do out of idealism, conviction and commitment. It is not a social club. Vaghela sacrificed his ideals for ambition. DO we really want to hear what this frustrated old man has to say?

6. All the sarcasm coming out of the UPA camp is betraying a deep seated fear. If it comes down to Modi VS Rahul Gandhi then the only hope that the Congress has are the dirty tricks, the brainwashed, liberal and pseudo secular Hindu middle class, votebank and caste politics. They hope like hell that it never comes down to actual achievement of the two men.

For the last couple of years we have been watching the skeletons tumbling out of the closets of the Congress Party and their allies (coalition dharma you see!) closet by way of these mega scams. Of course the skeletons in these cases were figurative ones. However we can trust the Indian Communists to actually take things to a new level. Actual human skeletons were found buried in the backyard of the CPM Minister Sushanta Ghosh. Yes. We are not talking figure of speech. We are talking about dead people murdered by these so called messiahs of the masses.

PC Chidambaran has said that the left wing extremism is the most violent movement and worse than terrorism. He is saying this about the Maoists but what he did not say about his erstwhile partners is that they are every bit as violent as the Maoists. Since PC is more likely to blame all the Indian ills on Saffron Terror, this was a deviation from his beaten path. However, I suspect that his motive is far less honorable in this. He just wants to divert attention from the Islamic terror that he has not been willing or able to do anything about

Coming back to the topic of leftist violence, as per yesterdays Express India article: Abdulla Kutty, the two-time CPM MP from Kunoor in Kerala who had to leave the party following his praise for Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, has alleged a Marxist “pogrom” against opposition in both Kerala and West Bengal. He even went on to reveal that "In Kunoor itself, the CPM has killed 145 Opposition supporters that included members of RSS in the last 25 years. This goes beyond the usual Communist “my way or no way manifesto”. Taking a page out of Lenin and Mao, these murdering thugs have made a mockery of all that India and her democracy stand for. For these guys, democracy is just a façade. In reality, they are no different than the third world dictators.

In one of our previous post titled "Liberal and Leftist Nexus" we had had talked about how CPM funded Teesta Setalvad and her NGO Citizens for Justice and Peace, to bring down a democratically elected CM, Narendra Modi. Large sums of money were given to fabricated witnesses of Teesta Setalvad. But it is no surprise. For these people murder is a way of life. Subversion of the truth is far lesser a crime.

But the real surprise is that the two states these people have dominated have the highest literacy. Voters from Kerala and Poschim Bongo are very well informed. Yet they have been electing the commies for decades. One can only shake ones head at this extreme example of irony.

Narendra Modi and Post Godhra Massacre Riots

Faisal Kidwai (whomever he is) has written an article only a Muslim and a leftist can write. I am sure that he is a leftist only when it comes to dealing with Hindu-Muslim issues i.e. Secular when dealing with Hindus and Conservative when it comes to Islam. The article he has written in the aftermath of the Supreme Court ruling which essentially exonerates Modi. The article is obviously biased and reeks of desperation

Kidwai indulges in some cheap theatrics inspired by the movie “A Time To Kill” and panders to fellow Muslims and bleeding heart liberals. He refers to the post Godhra massacre riots as a pogrom. The word Pogrom means “an organized massacre” like the killing of the 50 plus Karsevaks, or the slaughter of thousands of Sikhs in 1984 or what happened in Moplah before partition or what has happened to Hindu population in Pakistan where the percentage is down from 12 in 1947 to less than 2 today etc. What happened after the Godhra station massacre was nothing but reactionary revenge killing. Kidwai has no clue of the meaning of the word pogrom and if he does, he likes to use it selectively. He also ignores that out of about 2100 killed, more than 700 were Hindus. He has used examples of Hindu inflicted cruelty which have since been proven to be incorrect. Those examples seem to be from the history books when Muslim marauders like Ghazi and Ghouri inflicted on the hapless Hindus.

I do not want to sound petulant and proud of what happened in Gujarat. No sensible Indian can. But people like Kidwai need to stand and say that if the Muslims had not killed the 50 karsevaks, none of the rioting and killing afterwards would have happened. Take a breath Mr. Kidwai and accept that often ignored fact.

But none of what he said bothered me because we have been hearing these lies and distortions for the last decade. What bothered me was when this liar says the following:

So, those of you sitting on the sidelines cheering Modi should take a deep breath, pause and really ask yourself whether you want a leader under whose chief ministership hundreds were killed, who has by extension linked Hindus to terrorism and who did not even have the decency to resign, even though maintaining law and order is every chief minister's top duty.

He says that because he knows that he and his ilk have lost this battle and now he wants the Modi supporters to introspect. What I want him and every anti-Modi liberal is that how can you live knowing that you have repeatedly voted for Congress or enabled them knowing that they were responsible for killing thousands of Sikhs (now that WAS a pogrom). Jagdish Tytler who was allegedly in charge of choreographing those riots is still part of Congress leadership. It is also well known that a most Hindu Muslim or Shia-Sunni riots have happened under the Congress and other pseudo-secular party rules. Yes, how DO YOU LIVE WITH YOUR SELF MR. KIDWAI?

But even that is part of repeated efforts to bring down Modi and we know all the tricks. However what really riles me is when He tries to deny Modi credit for the upsurge of growth in Gujarat under Modi. It seems to be a pet excuse of all anti Modi brigade to say that the development in Gujarat is due to the entrepreneurial skills of the Gujaratis rather than Modi’s leadership. No one can or will deny that the Gujaratis have the entrepreneurial skill in spades and have succeeded the world over. However without the proper infrastructure, there is only so far your spirit or ability will take you.

Small and seemingly common sense decisions by Modi have resulted in drastic improvements in availability of power and water in a perpetually parched state. Farmers and industrialists are prospering together. It also claimed by the liberals that Modi is being coached by the Industrialists into making these decisions. Maharashtra used to be one of the most productive and prosperous states. Now it ranks in the bottom five. Where are those industrialists now? Why have they not helped a “secular” Congress government which has run the state into the ground? Why are farmers killing themselves in Andhra (another Congress ruled state) and Vidarbha which is Sharad Pawar’s backyard while Gujarati farmers are now exporting food? They also say that Modi has nothing to do with the large amounts of investments. I guess these people ignored the Tata Nano move from Poshchim Bongo to Gujarat. Do you think if some corrupt person were in Gujarat CM’s seat demanding his cut, Ford, BMW and others would be investing billions in the State? Imagine Raja or Kalmadi or anyone associated with UPA in charge of Gujarat and the amount of money they would have made? The fact that Modi is personally honest in the middle of such a huge flow of money speaks volumes of the man’s integrity. Of course all this eludes Kidwai and his ilk.

Mr. Kidwai, we do not need lessons in what Hinduism teaches us but you do. No Hindu is proud of what happened in Gujarat. It was a crying shame which we have trouble living with. However, we will not stand and take the blame for the entire tragedy. I wish that Muslims had not started it and killed the fifty plus karsevaks because that way I would not be here defending a great leader like Narendra Modi.

Firstly, the court has not announced a decision on the verdict, so the victory claim is pretty out of place. Secondly, even if Modi is given a clean chit, which would not come as a surprise considering that the Congress -- read the UPA government -- was never serious about pursuing Modi, thanks to party insider Ahmed Patel's view that going after Modi would hurt the Congress party's prospects in the state, how does that become an event to celebrate?

BJP: Party With a Difference or Congress Lite?

After decades of being an afterthought, the Jansangh (which was a gift to the nation by Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee) transformed itself into the BJP and became a political alternative to a corrupt, misguided and misruled Congress (except for the brief period when PV Narsimha Rao was the PM). They went from two MPs to a ruling party. The vacuum in the ranks of a suddenly expanded party was filled in by politicians with no allegiance to the Jansangh ideology. They were in it for power and money. Some old time RSS workers succumbed to the lure of power and money. Case in point is BS Yeddyurappa. Since then, the BJP lost its way. They were the party with a difference. The Honest Hindu Nationalists! I guess the combination of personal human frailties and demands for money to be a national party was too much of a burden for the BJP.
Now the BJP looks like they are trying to get back into power by taking shortcuts. They have done things that would make old time Jansanghis wince. As Mr. TVR Shenoy asks:

Was it necessary to form a coalition with the Janata Dal-Secular?
Was it necessary to broker compromise after compromise to keep the wealthy Bellary Brothers happy?
Was it necessary to give B S Yeddyurappa the same long rope?
Finally, was it necessary to rush to embrace Janardhana Reddy after the CBI arrested him (along with B V Srinivas Reddy) for illegal mining operations?

Another thing he does not ask is
Was it necessary to support Shibu Soren (knowing his background) in Jharkhand ?

When the BJP came to power the first time around, there was optimism in the middle class of actually having a genuine alternative. Even though they were not elected with a huge margin, yet it was significant that the middle class had ignored the pseudo-secular parties and voted for someone with RSS support (despite of a total demonization of the RSS by the Congress). But the BJP lost its way and now has been reduced to being lesser of the two evils rather than a party of difference.

They are at crossroads right now. The country is hurting for a party of difference. The BJP can atone for its sins in Karnataka and shed the corrupt leaders in its ranks. They need to energize their grassroots level workers. They should not shy away from asking the RSS for help. They need to sideline leaders like Arun Jaitley who are nothing but good looking spokespersons and have never won Loksabha elections. They need to showcase the leaders who are actual performers in the party like Narendra Modi, Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Raman Singh. They need to widen the support base of the party and strive towards increasing their vote percent. If it takes time then so be it. If they take short cuts like fielding DP Yadav from Western UP to counter the SP thugs then they are no better than any other party.

We have seen from the history of our country that the pseudo-seculars and the liberals have no ideology or a vision for the country (at least not one where India of tomorrow has roots in India of yesterday). They are short on everything including morality. On the other hand, we have seen from examples in other democracies than religious nationalists have to carry a bigger cross and cannot make compromises on ideology. The onus of being the honest and moral party is on the BJP. They need to come through on that. As corrupt and immoral as Congress is, they can always harp on history and get the voters attention. BJP cannot claim that (mostly because even the conservative freedom fighters fought under the same umbrella as the rest of the Congress). So my appeal to the BJP supporters is that they should not demand any less from the party they support. The BJP have a responsibility to the party and their supporters but a bigger responsibility to the nation. This is what they do not realize.

Lalloo Yadav appointed judge could not rule against Bhai Narendra Modi. All the NGO’s funded by Muslim countries and other liberals groups and assisted by UPA have miserable failed in bringing Modi down. Entire Indian media who are like bloodhounds when they want to be have been unable to make anything stick to the man. And all this is not because the man is Teflon coated. So why is it that the worst by the likes of Lalloo, Digvijay and Teesta Setalvad has failed to establish any guilt. Well I have the answer. BHAI NARENDRA MODI IS INNOCENT! This maybe well near impossible for these hyenas to digest but if they do not believe me then they must believe someone like Sherlock Holmes (or rather Doyle) who famously said: "When you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains--however improbable--must be the truth." There you go folks. The activist Supreme Court of India filled with judges appointed by the UPA has decided to defer the matter to the local DM thereby exonerating the man again for the umpteenth time. I can only guess why they have not put this matter to rest, once and for all.

So how many tests must Bhai Narendra Modi pass before the leftist and the pseudo-secular jackals leave Modi and Gujarat alone. Enough already! Let the man do his job and push Gujarat to new heights. There are many other states willing and able, in the union to be ruined by these “my way or no way” hyenas. If people of Gujarat want a Hindu nationalist government then that is their own choice whether Setalvad and other idiots like it or not. Let Modi and Gujarat do their work. After all someone has to make money for the rest of the country to waste and steal.

Delhi Blast: Weak Leaders and Weaker Voters

In most countries, a bomb blast would wake up the government and make people angry. Not ours! As per Congress Minister for Tourism, Subodh Kant Sahay, Delhiites have become habituated to the terror attacks. As preposterous that statement is, it is a non routine and an honest statement. What we have seen so far (and we have seen enough of these to see a clear pattern) is that after any bomb blast, the response of the members of the GoI is extremely predictable. Like Pavlovian dogs, the PM and HM will go on to describe the attacks as cowardly and ask the public for restraint. They will also offer payments / pittance to the victims. The local government affiliated with Congress would come out and play a blame game. The US will praise the restraint of the Indian government. Of course no arrests are ever made. No local connection is ever found. Even if some Indian outfit is found to be blamed, no arrests ever get made. Eventually, Digvijay Singh would come out and blame the Hindus for the attack. Chidambaran would start dropping terms like Saffron terror. English language media would come to the rescue of the government with a timely expose of some kind on BJP or better yet Bhai Narendra Modi. Eventually, all will be forgotten. Cricket or the latest Khan movie or some sleazy reality show will take over the space.

If platitudes and speeches could fill stomachs and make a population happy, India would be paradise. That is all our leaders are good for. What Subodh Kant Sahay has said is really the truth. Our leaders are worthless is protecting us. We as voters are enabling these worthless leaders so that should give you an idea of our worth to the nation. We must be the only true Catholic nation on the planet. You see, we keep turning the other cheek. Insult us and we turn the other cheek. Kill our people and we restrain ourselves and the forgive and forget. Even the countries who are largely Catholic do not have this kind of patience and forgiveness. I would like to remind my fellow Indians about another tenet in Christianity. Christians say that the Lord hates a coward. Repeatedly turning the other cheek, is not a virtue. It is cowardice. We make it a virtue because the alternative means action which we are too lazy to take. God forbid if it is too hot outside to go and cast your vote. The most of the middle class is either brainwashed by government / education system / media into believing that somehow, Secularism prohibits us from placing the blame where it belongs and the rest are too lazy to go out and vote.

Casting our vote is the only action that civilization and democracy allow. We need to rise up from our slumber and vote for the right people in the forthcoming elections. We need to become immune to seduction in the name of secularism, casteism, social classes, regionalism and see through the bullshit that our politicians feed us. Mayawati pretends to be the champion of the dalits and yet her own lifestyle would put the biggest elite and blueblood to shame. We need to vote for performers and not pretenders. We need to vote for the person and not the family. We need to vote on the basis of recent record and not the history. If we think that all parties are corrupt, then we need to pick the lesser of the evils. We need to look at states with good leadership and bring those local leaders to the national stage against the advice of national media and liberals.

We need to wake and take our country back. Otherwise, as Subodh Kant Sahay says, we better become even more used to these attacks. Maybe even start treating deaths of loved ones as cost of living in India.

Mayawati, Julian Assange and Wikileaks

In a response to a wikileaks cable, TP Srinivasan, a career babu has said that MK Narayanan has higher credibility than Timothy Roemer. TPN is forgetting that Narayanan was associated with one of the most corrupt regimes India has known. Roemer does not have that to his name. Mayawati wants Julian Assange in an mental asylum. Predictable responses indeed.

Wikileaks are a double-edged sword. On one hand they have put covert operations and operatives’ lives in jeopardy. On the other hand they have revealed what the media can and will not leak. The Indian media would rather be spreading lies about Bhai Narendra Modi than speak the truth about people like Mayawati. Shame on them! From the aim academy’s perspective, Julian Assange is a godsend who is revealing about our leaders that even bad Bollywood movies are wont to show.

Who would think of sending a private jet to Mumbai to fetch a pair of shoes? That sounds like Imelda Marcos. Who would build a private road from their residence to their office to avoid traffic? Sounds like Kim Jong-Il. Who would punish other public servants with sit-ups or force them to clean their shoes? Sounds like the villain from Manmohan Desai movies. Who would employ nine cooks and two food tasters? For answer to that you may have to go back to ancient Egypt and look at Cleopatra.

And yet all these and other acts of extreme corruption were not committed by a third world dictator! They were committed by an elected MLA / Chief Minister in the world’s biggest democracy. Our own Behenji, the champion of the downtrodden and the weak- Mayawati. A very cruel joke indeed!

Either something is wrong with the concept of democracy or people who enable this form i.e. the voters. Democracy is a successful concept and better than any other as shown by many countries including our own sometimes (people still sticking with Narendra Modi despite of all the disinformation). By implication, the other answer must be right. In democracy we deserve the government we elect. People of UP have elected Mayawati multiple times and before that Mulayam Yadav. Wow! That is the power of seduction and caste politics. The UP voters have repeated voted against their own interests. But this kind of criminal naïveté is not endemic to UP voters. Look at people of Bengal (or shall I say Poschim Bongo) who voted for the commies for over three decades. What about the people of the state with highest literacy? Keralites are still voting for the commies. Bihari voters were also guilty but have since rectified their electoral missteps.

Point is that it is the voters’ responsibility to not fall for regional or caste politics and elect people they would not normally let in their homes. It is the responsibility of the media to accurately show the true nature of our politicians. I would urge the politicians to look in the mirror once in a while but that would work for people with a sense of honor. People like Mayawati who hide behind the “dalit ki beti” card and shamelessly indulge in militant minorityism cannot be expected to be shamed. She will continue to do what she does and so will the voters of UP. She will be back. Maybe the voters of UP need to look into the mirror.

Anna Hazare: Only a Moral Victory

As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Anna Hazare brought down to its knees, one of the most arrogant and corrupt governments in our history. He succeeded because of his determination and help from the otherwise complacent middle class. I don’t think that the world and we are going to see something of this kind in our lifetimes. In the world today where violence is often seen as a legitimate means to ends like human rights, Anna is a reminder of all things good. Even though I do not agree with his demands (we have written on that topic in details on this blog), I am in awe of the man. When a hungry and weak Anna got up and said Vande Maataram, I got tingles down my spine. He once again got the country especially the middle class out of their mall and McDonald induced slumber and stand up for Mother India. Proud moment indeed!

But as we have said on this blog, yet another law without teeth is not going to solve anything. Giving teeth to mortal men and expecting to behave in a fashion conducive to “Satyug” is unrealistic at best. People who will be on the lokpal will have extraordinary powers. We will be expecting them to be impartial. But absolute power corrupts absolutely. My fears are that the new Lokpal bill may give rise to an unsustainable and a corrupt bureaucracy, very much under the influence of the politicos we are trying to make accountable. We already have the first example.

Now even the worst detractors of Narendra Modi grudgingly acknowledge the progress made by Gujarat under him. His enemies (entire left wing, liberals, pseudo-seculars and their ilk) have done all they could, including lying and cheating to bring the man down. Case in point is Teesta Setalvad. Despite of their worst, the man has not been hurt. If he were corrupt (imagine a UPA led government in Gujarat with all the money pouring in!) he could have made a lot of money. If Mayawati can become mega-crorepati in a poor state like UP then for Modi the sky could have been the limit. But entire media and government machinery has not been able to stick anything to the guy. So what does the Congress do? They use their pet trick of using the party loyal governor to appoint a Modi baiter as the state Lokayukta. The governor Kamla Beniwal who looks as inspiring a leader as a wet sock, is doing her best to make happy her masters in the Family.

Normally, a pro-Congress lokayukta would not be a problem for Narendra Modi. He can defend himself without any help. But we are too close to the next election. What Congress is hoping that they will accuse him of everything short of the Kennedy assassination and hope that mere appearance of impropriety would score points with the undecided voters. Being so close to the election puts the onus of proving innocence on the defendant rather than proving guilty on the prosecution. But we should not be expecting anything less that this from a party like Congress, which is completely devoid of any morals and achievements.

It is clear that the Congress is trying to take Modi out of the 2014 equation so that the BJP cannot project him as a PM candidate. If Modi could do for India, what he has done for Gujarat, then we would really be on our way to achieving our full potential. But the Congress and the liberals cannot have that. They are the kind of people who love to cut their nose to spite their face. Such is our luck. Yes. Anna’s victory is going to be a moral victory only.

Anna Hazare And Politicians Response

The response of the politicians has been very predictable. It started off with ignoring Anna. That is the way the UPA has been working. Ignore the issue and hope that it goes away. In this case, the problem persisted and then the dirty tricks department was unleashed. When demonization aided by the media did not work then they came back with a more subtle approach. The glib Kapil Sibbal took advantage of Anna’s trust and got him to quit his fast. Now once bitten, Anna came back better prepared with more resolve.

This time around the UPA has run out of their usual tricks. Anna has wisely asked to keep Sibbal and PC out of the equation. However, the UPA has found allies- the opposition. Now why would the opposition work to help the party they want to bring down? It could be that they are also afraid of the Jan lokpal bill. That would make sense because there are corrupt politicians even in the party I support. Of course no one would come out and say that reason. So the line being handed is that they do not want to have a body more powerful than the elected parliament. Now that is correct. After all, we are living in a democracy and the body of elected members of Loksabha who are also the keepers of the Indian Constitution should be the most powerful body in the land. But judging by the mess we are in, it is obvious that the system is not working.

Most successful democracies have a powerful system of checks and balances that keep the politicians honest. Not being a lawyer, I do not know if this mess is due to a flawed constitution or a gross misuse of it. What I do know is that creation of a Lokayukta is going to create a very powerful body. This body will have the power to bring down the corrupt but highly powerful and rich people. This body will also create a mammoth bureaucracy especially if we bring the lower level babus under the purview of this bill. What I do know about human behavior is that power of this kind can and will corrupt anyone. Then who will police the Lokayukta personnel? Will we then create another body? What about the expenses due to this parallel government? Will that not be a major burden to the taxpayer? These details cannot be ignored.

My bigger concern is who will get to be on this body? Who will decide that? Will the leftist liberal NGOs have a say in this? Because if it were up to these people, hey will work like attack dogs hunting men like Bhai Narendra Modi. A leftist Lokayukta will be like Teesta Setalvad on steroids.

But then the politicians deserve every bit of this misery. They have had chances after chances to solve the corruption problem. If they have not actually dipped into the dirty money pool they have ignored it for love of power (like Manmohan Singh). They have let it fester until it has become the cancerous tumor it is. Now even if Anna is strong-arming them with unreasonable demands, it is their own fault. They and their minions in the media cannot complain about it.

So what is a possible solution? How can the politicians and activist meet half way? If both sides approach the issue with sincerity and honesty (a tall demand for sure) then we could enforce the Jan Lokpal bill for a limited time e.g. 10 years during which the system gets cleaned up. It may not be enough time to revamp the work culture but still could encourage the next generation of employees to approach work with a different set of ethics. Meanwhile the government could put in place the sort of checks and balances in the Constitution which should have been there from the beginning. Whatever the measure, the most basic need is for complete transparency and honesty from here onwards. Does anyone think that our politicians can turn the page that quickly? I for one, am not that hopeful.

Why has PM not faced Anna Hazare between April and August?
A start has been made. Ten days after his 'create disturbances' speech, the prime minister told Parliament that his government 'applauds' Anna Hazare and 'respects' his idealism. Oddly, between April and August, the Congress's 'Mr Clean' has never actually faced Anna Hazare. Why is that?

Anna Hazare: Response of the Voters

The second attempt by team Anna has invoked very strong response from the voters. The first campaign had support of the economically weakened sections of the society and Baba Rammed supporters. Those are the people who normally go out, brave the elements and vote. However, this time around, the supporters include sections of the society who would not step out of their comfort zones to vote. This also includes the younger population who are too cool to be bothered by the state of the nation. It is precisely because of lack of response from this class that parties like SP, BSP or even Congress get empowered. Now the same class of non voters is realizing the implication of inaction.
What we are now seeing is that people involved in the movement are a much better representation of the society. That is why; even the detractors of this movement are hard-pressed to question its legitimacy and seriousness. We now have celebrities (non famous ones), a couple of sitting judges, IIT graduates who boycotted convocations presided by Manmohan Singh. On a trip from Delhi to Agra, I saw a number of processions by school children. In short, I have not seen this kind of passion in my life time. Of course I do not remember JP’s campaign against Indira Gandhi regime. A passionate and peaceful gathering of Indians has not been seen outside of cricket stadiums. Good things come out of such events.

Of course you would expect some jackass to ruin the party. The Jama Masjid Imam has said that the Muslims should stay away from the anti corruption movement because it’s rallying cries include Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai. For this moron, corruption that the Muslims are facing is less important thing than facing calls of Vande Mataram. Muslims can attend the movement and support Anna without saying the offensive “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”. So when the Royal Family of Awadh (20,000 members) announced that they will not celebrate Eid as a mark of their protest, it was a major slap in the face of the Imam. On top of this, the national president of All India Muslim Women Personal Law Board, Shaista Amber has decided to come out in the support of Anna. She along with her supporters came to the Ramlila ground in her burqa along with the other members. I say, god bless this woman. She went to say that “Bukhari’s statement is illogical and everyone has a right to freedom of speech and expression”. She also accused the Congress government of insulting and exploiting the Muslim Community. Wow! This woman has more guts than most men out there. God bless her. We at this blog have always held that Islam will be brought forth into the modern times by its female followers. Well for that matter, every backward community in Hindus could use the help of their girls and women.

It is a proud moment for the country when her citizens rise and speak in unison against common evil in a peaceful way. That is the hallmark of a proud civilization which is sure of itself.

Anna Hazare, Communalism and Some Thoughts.

1. At a loss for a proper way (there is none) to deal with the popular anti corruption movement, the Congress spin-meisters are branding the movement as a communal. They are trying to prove to their votebank that the evil BJP and the more evil RSS are behind the movement. It is a desperate move but one which betrays the diseased mindset of the fear mongering practitioners of the votebank politics. I think it an affront to all voters who are being told that communalism is a bigger problem than corruption. I really wish that Muslim leaders would get up and tell the Congress that they are not buying this anymore.

2. Of course taking a page from Mrs. Indira Gandhi’s book of crisis management, the UPA have also blamed the US for being in “cahoots “with the Anna Campaign. Yes. The two headed monster of RSS and CIA is back. This kind of predictability is indicative of desperation, lack of moral clarity and an abject lack of political sense.

3. Anna Hazare had entered the first fight unprepared. He had brought a knife to a gun fight. Once bitten twice shy, he has started the second phase of his fight much better prepared. Arresting a Gandhian septuagenarian like him to Tihar was a foolish move on part of the UPA but very good for Anna and the movement. The difference between good and evil has now become even starker, if that were possible. The parallels between Anna’s movement and Jayaprakash Narayan’s movement from the 1970s are uncanny. Both were / are being led by non politicians and followed by the youth of India. Both were / are against power hungry, corrupt and authoritarian regimes, only interested in welfare of a family. One can only hope that the end result of the current movement is the same as that of the first one.

4. While Anna learned from his mistakes from the first time around, the UPA have done nothing of the sort. What has become clearer (if that were possible) that the PM and the senior cabinet ministers have little to no power at all. If he were involved, a seasoned politician like Pranab Mukherjee would never make the mistakes being made. So who is running the show? It is the close coterie of the Gandhi family faithfuls (or is it fat-fools?) who are imperiling the nation with their corrupt, myopic and authoritarian approach to ruling. Even gullible voters of the UPA deserve better than this.

5. Our recent posts have discussed the lessons for the BJP in this mess. I certainly hope that the BJP is keeping on top of all this. Recent experience in Karnataka shows that contentious issues should be dealt by leaders who are respected by the cadres. My opinion is that the leaders who have shown their political mettle by winning elections and leading at the grassroots levels rather that nominated good looking public speakers are the ones who are respected and taken seriously. A common worker is more likely to take Narendra Modi seriously than Arun Jaitley. Then using such leaders, the BJP need to start a grassroots level campaign for the next elections. They need to be prepared for early elections and not be caught unawares.

Indian Leftists: Useful Idiots or Traitors?

An Indian born, AMU educated Muslim Ghulam Nabi Fai was recently charged with spying on behalf of ISI / Pakistan and trying to influence American politicians. He was the head of Kashmir-American Council and used to hold annual meetings. He also used to contribute to election funds of gullible and greedy American politicians while lobbying on behalf of Kashmiri separatists. This proud son of Mother India was doing his best to help Kashmiri terrorists and weaken the Indian position on J&K in the world. American FBI and the US courts that are not influenced by his minority religious status (unlike Indian courts or authorities), charged him with spying on behalf of the ISI. Since then Dan Burton and Joe Pitts, the two anti Indian politicians have returned all the money. The so called think tanks who had bought into this man’s lies have since backtracked silently. Weak mea culpa has been offered by all.
These annual meetings hosted by Fai were attended by Pakistanis from various branches of the government and media. Of course Indian leftists and liberals were also invited. Many of these are people like Dileep Padgaonkar, are in position of influencing the policies of the Government of India. For these leftists, these meetings were an all expense paid trip along with a chance to thumb their noses at Indian conservatives and establishment – both catnips to leftists. Since Fai’s arrest, these people have offered the “babe in the woods” or the “innocent as newborn babies” explanations. No one in their right minds would believe that people like Kuldeep Nayyar, Dileep Padgaonkar and Justice Sachar could not figure out the actual agenda of Fai. One would think that with all the anti Indian rhetoric and Pakistanis from the defense and political establishment in attendance would have offered them some clue. After all these people are not idealistic college freshers. So the question is: are these people useful idiots or traitors?

As per Wikipedia, "Useful idiot is often used as a pejorative term for those who are seen to unwittingly support a malignant cause through their 'naive' attempts to be a force for good”. A lot of these people are seduced by ideas of peace at all costs and equality by any means. That approach may work with really small segments of population where the social dynamics and the implications can be managed. However with larger and diverse cross section of society or where national interests are involved, the costs and means for peace and equality HAVE to be considered.

Better things are expected from people like Justice Sachar and a veteran journalist like Kuldeep Nayyar. They may be leftists but still have seen enough of the world to know better. Frustrated academics like Angana Chatterji and Vijay Prashad or flash in the pan celebrities like Arundhati Roy who are after cheap publicity are expected victims of manipulators like Ghulam Nabi Fai.

The more important question is: are these people traitors? Probably not. After all they do have noble intentions and seem to be victims of their own bloated egos. However, the damage to the society or the nation because of their actions is as bad as that of a terrorist or an anarchist. The one thing that really bothers me though is that these people do seem to enjoy the power they have over conservatives and the establishment due to their celebrity, biased media and pseudo-secular politics. So are these people working towards peace and equality or bringing down the conservatives and the establishment? That question needs to be asked.

The Terrorist Leaders Of J&K

A Pakistani once told me that India had to be divided because Muslims cannot live under anyone’s (read non-Muslim) rule. This can be brushed aside as one man’s rant. But then if you look at problems caused by Muslim minorities where they are in a significant percentage, you realize there is something to that statement. It is from this vignette, I wish to examine two threats made by Muslim terrorists (or separatists, as Indian media calls them). Self styled reformed terrorist Yasin Malik has threatened increased violence in the valley if India and Pakistan do not resolve their dispute. Of course resolution to him and his Paki masters means surrender by India. Dileep Padgaonkar, Kuldeep Nayyar and Justice Sachar would disagree with my assessment but they are stooges of a known ISI spy so their opinion of their ilk no longer holds any water.

Another Terrorist Syed Shah Gilaani has said that terrible things are going to happen if Afzal Guru is hanged. To me this means a complete indictment of Guru’s guilt and a gross interference in Indian judicial system. Of course between pseudo-secular politicians and liberal media, justice cannot be carried out against Muslim perpetuators anyway.
Now these two criminal idiots are Pakistani stooges who want to carry out their master’s bidding. Their loyalty is commendable. But these two claim to be representatives of the Muslims from J&K. So let us try to examine what the Muslim aam aadmi in the valley thinks. For the moment, we will do a criminal act on our own and ignore the displaced Hindus from J&K. Now Sanaa Altaf has been writing on newsinsight.net for a while now. She has been a champion of the aam aadmi from the valley. She has written about the lost generation of J&K Muslim youngsters. For a long time these kids have been used by terrorists as cannon fodder. Between fiery speeches and bribes, these kids do not stand a chance. But if you read Sanaa Altaf’s articles on the orphans of the terrorism and other social problems then you will realize that to the terrorists and Pakistani, the aam aadmi is nothing more than a tool and means to meet their nefarious ends. They do not represent the J&K Muslims the way they claim. The moderate leadership which actually represents the J&K Muslims are deemed as enemies by the likes of Malik and Gilani and thus killed. Eradication of terrorism and extermination of terrorists is in the interests of J&K Muslims as well as the rest of the nation.

I can understand the desire of J&K Muslims for some degree of autonomy to preserve their culture. I can understand that as long as they include the Hindus and accept them as part of the solution. What I cannot understand is why the current day Muslim aam aadmi wanting to merge with Pakistan. PoK has never had any kind of elections ever. If it were not for Congress and their selfish policies in the valley, the elections in J&K would have been a lot fairer than they seem to have been. But at least there have been elections. If it were not for terrorism in J&K, the youth from the valley would have a lot more opportunities like the IAS topper from a couple of years ago. A lot more industries like tourism and food processing could have been opened in that state. It could have been a very prosperous state but for the terrorism.

But that is not what these terrorists like Malik and Gilani would have the aam aadmi believe. They want to merge with Pakistan. Let us examine that option. Daily deaths due to violence in Pakistan are in double digits and I do not mean accidents either. If it were up to the Balochis they would like to pull out of Pakistan. A once prosperous port of Karachi is now burning. That war is between two rival gangs. What caused an increased gangsterism in Karachi? Presence of Dawood Ibrahim and his henchmen. That is the ISI’s gift to Karachi. We all know what the entanglement of ISI / Paki army is with the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Pakistan is not a country. It is a criminal enterprise. Muslims in UP have lots of relatives in the Mohajir community in Karachi. How many of them do you think want to move to Karachi right now? Pakistan is a failed state. Anyone with any means is leaving the country. Now why would the aam aadmi from J&K would want to join Pakistan? Either they have a death wish or they have been kept ignorant by these self styled keepers of the valley.

I wish that the aam aadmi in J&K would summarily reject these terrorists and get on with their lives. They need to be represented by moderate leaders who can actually negotiate with the central government for autonomy and development packages. I for one would support them wholeheartedly as long as the Hindus can go back to their homes in J&K.

Are Manmohan And Sonia Clean?

Ronald Reagan’s real achievement was being at the right place at the right time. He looked good and spoke well. Other than that, he did not do anything. In fact if anything, he ran up the deficit and laid groundwork for future economic debacles. Yet he is looked upon as one of the greatest US presidents. Folks, it is all smoke and mirrors. Public opinions can be managed by careful media management.

In India, no one manages the media better than the Congress. It does not hurt to have a pliant media also. All these years through systematic brainwashing, subterfuge and careful dissemination of information, the Gandhi / Nehru dynasty has been protected. Despite of repeated blunders, Nehru has been placed on a pedestal as someone the nation could not have done without. Mrs. Gandhi was also protected in the same way. After the Bofors scandal, one would have thought that the Gandhi family was dome in politics but not in India. They were brought back by the Congress as saviors.

Which brings us to the present times when despite all kinds of scams and corruption cases, opinion polls indicate that Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi are thought of as above the sleaze. While everyone thinks that the UPA is corrupt and yet somehow the two people in charge are innocent. All these scams are part of an organized effort to rob the country and in organized crime, money flows from the bottom to the top i.e. from the doer to the person in charge. Then how can the money flow stop below the person on the top? Of course the media mavens would have you believe that despite of the sleaze around them, these two were unaware of it all. Even if one is gullible enough to believe that, how does one explain this astounding degree of naïveté? Or is it incompetence? Or worse? How do people of this kind deserve to be in charge?

The fact of it all is that the lust for power or money or both has forced the so called clean people to look the other way. In legal terms this is called aiding and abetting which are felonies in their own rights. My point is that despite of any overt proof, one can safely say that these two people are definitely guilty of something.

So why do people still think that they are above it all? Careful image management with help from media lap dogs is one answer. Of course you also have men like Digvijay Singh who is a master of diverting attention. You have men who are taking all the blame either out of loyalty or fear. How else can we explain the silence of A Raja or Kalamadi or Kanimozhi? Why are Balwa or Hassan Ali keeping quiet? But the bigger question is why the voters of India are not asking these questions?

May be the people cannot believe that they elected this bunch not once but twice. Maybe their need for something or someone to place their faith in is blinding them to the obvious. Maybe the years of media assisted brainwashing has made the Gandhi brand name impervious to any suspicion. Whatever the reason, the aam aadmi needs to open his eyes otherwise he will end up making the same mistake a third time. The nation cannot afford any more mistakes.

Strengthen the Hands That Rock the Cradle

I have a nearly eleven year old daughter. When I think about her, all I can think are what toys I can afford or what books to buy or what are her strengths or her school. All my efforts are focused on keeping her healthy and happy. I DO NOT think about her getting married. I am a Hindu and traditionalist but I am also educated and forward looking. My religion and culture affords me the luxury of questioning the wrong and the incorrect. So when I see people marrying or their almost adolescent daughters, it chafes me to no ends. No one can justify child marriages. If it is tradition then it is wrong. Just because a man is a girl’s father, it does not give him the right to ruin her life based on some perceived male superiority. Ours is not a traditional patriarchal society. At least not in the way Islamic world is. On one hand we abuse women in every possible way and then we worship various devis. This dichotomy is baffling and needs to be addressed.

Indian girls have matched the successes of boys every step of the way. In a lot of cases they have well exceeded them. So why do we still cling on to traditions which demean and humiliate girls? I don’t think there is a simple answer to this. Boys do not have any interest in correcting this. Men with daughters do but somehow, instead of fighting the system, they seem to be succumbing to it which is a damned shame. So who should pick up this fight? Of course the girls. They really do need to stand up for their share in India’s future. It is their interest and it is in India’s interest. One of the factors common to all third world countries is the status of women in those countries. Half of our population cannot be held back and denied the fulfillment of their potential.

It is in this spirit that I want to talk about this young Rajasthani girl Sapna Meena. Instead of getting married, she wanted to get more education and get a job. In any other country, this would be a normal dream. However in the world of chauvinistic Indian men, she may as well have been asking for the moon. God bless this girl, she stood up elders in the family. When she could not get the help she so deserved, she went to the authorities. Amazingly, the sarkari babus stood up for her and her wedding was put off. She was awarded a certificate of gallantry by the government for being an "agent of change" in her community. Good for her!! It will be Indians like her who will carry the country to the next level.

What is the responsibility of others? The men should listen to the aspirations of their daughters and recognize their potential. The establishment should enforce the anti child marriage laws as they do other laws. They should also stand up for girls like Sapna. Instead of peddling their usual sleaze, the Indian media should tom-tom Sapna’s case and others like that. India deserves to hear stories like this.

Is India A Shithole And Ganga A Garbage Dump?

Kevin Ruud used to adopt a very hard-line sanctimonious attitude when it came to India. He criticized our policies on Nuclear issues and human rights. Yet, when it came to China, he was a different man even though the Chinese are the worst proliferators of nuclear technology and are not aware of the concept of human rights. If the Chinese put shit on a plate, Kevin Ruud would call it pudding and eat it. You see, the Chinese are the largest consumer of Australian natural resources. Australians are the descendents of the criminal rejects from England. They have all of the worst English traits but are yet to master the British art of masking their hatred for the “lesser” races. So if some shock-jock radio host like Kyle Sandilands calls India a shithole and Ganga a garbage dump we should not be surprised. We should ignore this orifice of the posterior and deny him the cheap publicity he so desperately seeks.

As I have suggested many times before, we should boycott products from nations who do not treat us with respect or are inimical to our interests. Buying Chinese made stuff is equal to treason in my opinion. We should also treat stuff from Australia with similar disdain. They need to be punished for this and completely failing to protect Indian students.

That said, let us examine the statement made by that puddle of vomit Sandilands about India and Ganga. If an ignorant and heartless buffoon especially of European descent travels India, what is the most likely impression of the country? It will be that aside from prosperous pockets, it is a very dirty country. What about taking a boat ride in Ganga? They will see industrial and human waste being dumped unfettered into what we deem as a holy river. Sandilands may be a crude bastard but he has struck a very raw nerve here. Our reaction to it is also genuine and expected. It is one thing for me to yell and scream at my son for any mistakes he may make but entirely another if someone else does that. I will pick a huge fight with the other person. But our reaction, however genuine it may be, does not and should not end the story.

We have written many articles on this blog about the sorry state of our rivers especially Gangaji. As per WHO standards, the water in Hardwar is not fit to be used for agriculture. Think about how bad it must be downstream in Kanpur and Prayag. Please read the articles mention below for exact details. The worst culprits are unscrupulous industrialists who treat the river as a waste disposal unit. The worst of this criminal lot, of course are the tanneries in UP. Since most of them are owned by Muslims, it may be worth examining if they are getting away with it because the pseudo-secular parties in UP treat Muslims with kid gloves. Be that as it may, a zealot like ex Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh is needed to clean up our rivers. It is a pity that he has been shunted off to another portfolio while his portfolio has been given to Congress mouth piece Jayanti Natrajan who is battling accusations of land scams in TN. The central government and our religious leaders need to get involved in this. Mayawati cannot do this work. The city administrations also need to be pulled up for laxity in human waste disposal into the rivers. Someone needs to light up a fire under all the IAS babus along the banks of Gangaji.

As far as the country being dirty is concerned, we are all guilty. Amazingly, we Hindus clean our houses, light up an agarbatti in front of our “eesht-devta or devi” and throw the garbage out. We need to be very scrupulous about where and what we throw. Of course, the Municipalities also need to be held responsible for the filthy condition of our urban and rural areas. We need to do all this so we can shut up worms like Sandilands forever. Otherwise, we should be prepared to listed to hurtful jibes from every jerk in the world.

Australian radio host says 'India is a shit hole'
Melbourne: An Australian radio show host is facing criticism from the Indian community over his reportedly derogatory comments on India and Hinduism, in which he called river Ganga a 'junkyard'. A Sydney-based Indian group is seeking an apology from the radio station following a report that host Kyle Sandilands made anti-India comments on his "Kyle and Jacky O" show. According to a report by a local ethnic TV programme 'Desi Kangaroos', Sandilands said "India is a shit hole" and went further to describe river Ganga as a 'junkyard'. The Council of Indian Australians (CIA) lashed out on Sandilands for the "insulting" remarks, and has said it would take up the issue with Australia's media regulatory body if it was not amicably resolved.

BJP In Karnataka: Time For Introspection

The whole sordid tale of BSY, Reddy brothers and illegal mining has been very disturbing to all of us who have treated the BJP as a party with a difference. The Jana Sangha and then the BJP WERE the party of difference. The supporters and members alike were proud nationalists. When the BJP came to power, they still were the party we could rally around. But they expanded too rapidly and that kind of growth created a vacuum, which was filled by people with love for power but not ideology. The suddenly big party needed lots of money to keep up with the Congress. This need brought in dirty money. Very soon, the BJP started to look like any other party albeit with few oases of hope (Gujarat and MP for example). Some of the older party workers were weak and fell prey to the lure of money which came along with power. BS Yeddyurappa is a prime example of this. We can say that he is still better and a lot less corrupt than others but that does not absolve the BJP of the responsibility of putting up with him and some other non-BJP partners. The aforementioned vacuum aside, how did we come to such a pass?

Long time ago, we saw a similar example in UP where the Lodh community held the entire UP politics hostage. The BJP had to put up with Kalyan Singh who like BSY is an ex RSS worker. Kalyan Singh worker tirelessly for the state and the party but his rule was one filled with distractions. After loosing, he could not do much to revive the party and he did nothing to make room for newer leaders. He saw himself as indispensable because he knew at the back of his mind that he had the Lodh community votes with him. Essentially, his ambition and his vote advantage overrode the BJP, UP and eventually the Indian concerns. Why Indian concerns? After loosing UP, the BJP lost their core base and could never come back to power with the support they needed and deserved. Now we have a sequel to that movie. BSY was clinging to the power with the knowledge that he has the support of the Lingayat community. If the BJP looses the state in the next election, we will know why. It is a pity that caste politics is still ruining and corrupting the entire nation. Of course, we the voters are to be blamed for that.

We cannot blame the entire episode on BSY only. Some others from the BJP also must have benefited. As we say, the flow of 2G money goes well beyond the doors of DMK. Yes they need money to run a national party but they still have to rise above the filthy quicksand in which all other parties have sunk. If the BJP want to be called the party of difference then they have to find a way out of this without any excuses. Conservatives, the world over, are blamed of self-righteousness. That is their cross to bear. They set the bar higher for personal character and integrity. They need to live up to it.

Before we expect others to follow the example of Gujarat and Narendra Modi, we should make sure that every one in the BJP is emulating that example. You see, at the end of the day, good governance wins over all other issues. It is the “trump ka ikka”. Votes from a community are something the BJP should leave for Congress and other pseudo-secular parties and focus on strong performance. That is what is going to win them the next election and make our dreams of a strong and united India come true.

India Pakistan Peace Talks: A Soap Opera!

India’s FM, a vapid septuagenarian and a family loyalist. Pakistan’s FM, a 34 year old, well made up rich brat with a silver spoon still sticking out of her mouth. That is the cast du jour of the latest episode of the soap opera that is Indo-Pak peace talks!

This show really gets the aman ki aasha brigade riled up like a bored housewife. Who else gets excited? Well, the PM for sure because he looks good to the western countries who are in awe of our restraint in the face of repeated terror attacks. He also gets to fulfill his legacy of being the first guy to bring peace in the subcontinent when everyone else has failed. English language media also gets pumped up. They get to cover the Paki glam doll going from meeting to meeting to masjid to dargaah. To what end one does and must ask?

These talks like most vacuous TV shows or a Bollywood flicks, have the excitement, dream sequence, locations and (this time) some glamour. However, as soon as the credits roll, you realize that nothing really happened. You are out of a few rupees and now have a headache.

Is there any point in talking peace with Pakistan? I have written many articles on this blog and am not going to repeat myself. I request the newer readers to read our thoughts on the subject in the urls given below. However, one must say that this time we knew this was just a charade when they sent us a newbie with a degree in hotel management with experience in parenting (rich woman like that does parenting by proxy) and running a restaurant at a Polo club. She comes to India and meets up with the Hurriyat terrorists. Who do you think she was instructed by? Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry or the almighty Paki army / ISI / Mullahs? Until we know whom we are talking to, is there any point in carrying out these charades? Who are we fooling anyway? The Americans are too smart to be fooled by this playacting. Let us not waste anymore time and money of the taxpayer. The GoI owes us more than this.
